Windowblinds Skins for windows
rjgentry replied to rustyburrito55's topic in Websites and Web Designing
windowblinds is just a pain. like many people have said it's a resource hog. i just don't think a drag in my performance is worth making things all cutesy. but i haven't had any problems with bootskin and winlogon yet at all. hte reason that bootscreens ahve lower res is because on win 2000 they have to. it's the way windows is built. it should work fine on xp, mine has the same quality as the orginal boot screen. and i haven't had a single problem with my customized homestarrunner logon! but that's just my 2 cents. -
Research: Really How Popular Are Blogs?
rjgentry replied to rhodesian.dragon's topic in Websites and Web Designing
yeah, there's still a lot of work to do on it. dan and i just started on it and he's in california for a few days, so it's all on hold right now. i know basic stuff about web design but i'm gonna let dan get it done before i fiddle with it. -
i was reading the cnet review and they mentioned that the HD shuts down a lot to save power and all hte stuff for the apps you have open sticks in the RAM. so it's good if you only have a few lite programs open, but if you get a few too many open, or any time you do something new, it has to spin up the hard disk so you have a six second wait and everything locks til it finishes what it's doing. not that big of a deal i guess, but some people might find that annoying.Ray J Gentry IV

well, when i first posted in this thread, i didn't have a blog, but it's up now on my site-in-progress. so if you want to check it out, i have the link here. but a warning...there's really nothing interesting LOL. but if you still want to...here you go: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Ray J Gentry IV -
I'm pretty excited to see longhorn when it comes out. I definately won't have the cash to get it for a while, but I'm ok with that. I'll let them work out the bugs and get things situated before I bother turning my whole system over. I think MS has been moving in the right direction. Windows XP isn't by any means perfect, but nothin is and i enjoy it. I just hope Longhorn looks a little more classy rather than the bubble-gum graphics xp has (start button mainly). but I have windows put back to 2000 style with a custom color theme and that suits me just fine. I think it'll be a solid OS and am excited to see what they do. And honestly, I have no real need to actually move to another OS. It does what I want and I don't have any problems with it.Ray J Gentry IV

Asteroid In 2029, an asteroid will be viewable...
rjgentry replied to kc8yff's topic in Science and Technology
Well, according to the report, even if it did hit earth, it would only cause local damage and have regional impacts. and since it won't be visible from the US, i'd say it'd be ok if it hit somwhere else. i mean, whaddya do? haha. jk i wouldn't want anyone to be hurt by it. but it's good to know even if they're wrong we could probably (hopefully?) figure out where it would impact and get everyone out if we needed.or we could just build a really big trampoline and and launch it into a new orbit. i think that'd be the best idea. then no one gets hurt and no property is damaged. plus after the asteriod was launched back from earth we could all get together, drink some booze and bounce on the trampoline in jubilation! woo hoo!!....wow, i think it's time for bed....yes...need....sleep...Ray J Gentry IV -
I know that to upgrade, I need 30 hosting credits, but since they list the hosting credits in days, how do i know when I get enough to upgrade my account? I'm not to the point where i need to yet (sites not up) but I'd like to know for when I need to.Ray J Gentry IVNevermind. i'm a moron. i found the hosting stuff. just didn't look near hard enough. i apologize if anyone go this read before i changed it. mods can delete this if they want since i'm a little slowray j gentry iv

that's definately a great point. xp looked so bubblegum it drove me nuts. i got rid of the crappy xp gui for the W2000 gui with some custom colors and all that. at least it has options to get rid of that. but xp made a big break into consumer computing cause for some crazy reason a lot of people liked it. i htink it was just cause it was comfortable and NOT computer like. y'know? that made people less nervous. but that doesn't make it an inherently good system, although it made big steps into people's comfort zone, which for microsoft, is really important. gotta keep thier huge market portion.and i agree that windows is definately not necesarrily the "best" system ever, but like i said, people got comfortable and they'll use it. GUI is easy, yeah, you lose functionality, but most people don't need anything more than windows gives them. people who do know how to work around the things windows lack, or they use alternates. kinda just the way the world works i guess.Ray J Gentry IV

i love my gmail accounts so much. i can use outlook to get all my mail and not have to check it online. the amount of space they offer is amazing (but somewhat irrelevant to me since i download my mail) but it's nice i can leave a copy on their server and look at it online whenever i want. i guess i haven't explored it too thoroughly, just been using it for the simple things, but it's been an awesome service in my opinion!Ray J Gentry IV
