  1. Mambo Open Source (MOS) is a Content Management System (CMS) that is very easy to use.

The templates are about 95% html/xhtml based so they are easy to create.  More unique templates can be created with some knowledge of PHP.

Mambo is an open source application so it is free to  use.  There are hundreds of modifications available for Mambo as well.

Here is the default list of features:

Number of members and guests online.

News Flash box on front page.

    Newsfeed Configurator.

Menu Manager for multiple menus in either vertical or horizontal listing.

Site Search - All areas via individual search bots.

    HTML Editor.

    User Manager.

    User submitted news items.

    Multiple content addition methods.

    Categorized Web Links.

    Categoriezed Content.

    Categorize New Articles.

    Archive for news and content.

    Polls.

Easy Server, Database, and Site Configuration Screens.

    Module, Component, and Bot Installers.

Easily turn off or on any module or component.

    FAQ.

    Multiple user levels available.

Member or Admin only options for all items.

View on certain pages only option for all modules and menus.

Module position control without editing template.

    Copy, Create, Edit, Delete Modules

The first modification I suggest it to turn off the default Web Links and use the Bookmarks component instead.  the Bookmarks component uses Yahoo style hierarchical categories for the links and you can even set your links (bookmarks) as private or import all of your bookmarks or favorites from your browser.  A single link can be shown in multiple categories as well without the need to submit the link several times.  In fact, each link may only be used once.  Auto validation of the link makes keeping track of dead links easy and the link description can be set to automatically get the meta description from the target webpage.

If you are an Simple Machines Forum (SMF) user like me, you'll be happy to know that there is more than one SMF-Mambo bridge availible.  I suggest using the one from MamboHacks.com.

If you want to use Mambo and SMF together with this bridge and you use Fantastico for installation, read this first.

There are many other great components availible as well as modules and bots that will make your website unique and interesting.

Give Mambo a try, I'm sure you'll like what you see.

    Happy Content Managing, :D

  2. the preference of laptop vs. PC is completely determined by what you need the computer for. here are some good reaesons to use one over the other:

    PC

    ------

    - home

    - business/office

    - shared users

    - programmers

    - immobile users

    laptop

    ------

    - single-users

    - users who use computers for recording (shows, for example)

    - journalists

    - college-students (work on campus)

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

This is a good sum of uses, except the single users part. I singly use a computer which isn't a laptop.

  3. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/?utm_source=getfirefox-com&utm_medium=referral

I tried Opera but did not really like it and since most of my users at least on my sites use IE or Mozilla (Netscape or Firefox) I need to be aware of some of the issues for those particular browsers.

So mostly that is why I use those browsers, I am answersing this post with IE but am working on one of my sites with Firefox.  It is is PHP-Nuke site that uses the IPB as forums and I am setting them up, and am looking for some modifications to the IPB to make some of my phpBB Users feel more at home with the IPB board.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Yeah, just use mozilla firefox. The only problem is that you will have troubles streaming video. Go to: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/?utm_source=getfirefox-com&utm_medium=referral to download then go to Mozila firefox tweeks to improve the speed in which you can browse at.

  4. I put all my trust into Google's Gmail. Their ad technology is the same that they use on websites in the Google Adsense program. It simply looks for keywords (such as "music") and displays ads for those keywords, just like it does with the websites.

Google says no one will read your email and I trust them. I have talked to people who work at Google and they hire really nice employees. Nothing is wrong with Gmail.

I put my full trust into Google because why would they be reading OUR emails? They know that emails are private and will keep them that way. The thing you just have to be worried about is reading email at work or in a public place. Some places install software that sends screen shots over the network to the admin's computer (my school does this). That's what you need to be worried about... not some ad server.

I'll continue to use Gmail no matter what. Just because Google is more advanced then Yahoo! or Hotmail, I know they would NOT invade a person's privacy without permission or unless the FBI contacts them about an account. THEN they'll open your account to the FBI....

The only thing I don't like is that you can't send .exe files. Hotmail which allows these files and scansis better, but of cource offers barely any favourable features. Gmail is good for keeping backups etc of your emails. Thats what I do anyway :D

  5. The difference between the laptop and the desktop is focus on portability.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I actually think the main thing is the great speed and functionabiliy advantage on desktop PC's. For example there is a lot of cooling space in a desktop so the computer can be ovoerclocked to greater speeds than it already is. The same heat issue effects the type of CPU that can be installed into a laptop. It has to be a low heat CPU, which means the cache level has to be lower than desktops. The main advantage I think is the space that desktops have for parts.

  6. haha, frontpage isn't that bad, maybe it is because you people are using frontpage 2002 or below. Frontpage 2003 uses templates which make changing the look of your website so easy! Just by editing one file, all the pages in your website are changed, ready for uploading. If the server you are uploading to have frontpage 2003 extensions installed then you can do the updating online and not even have to upload. There is nothing to hate there :D

  7. Yeah, I recomend you getting from a small bussiness, as things are just much easier and cheaper. Make sure you remember to not get a Celeron unless you are not planning to use any software that is likely to require more than 128/256kb cache. Also if you are wanting to play games, try get a mobile readon for cheap but good graphics

  8. I was on the internet on a friend's house yesterday, and he introduced me to Red vs. Blue. I was hooked almost instantly. I want to do it for hl2, but I can't seem to find any ways to do it. Can someone throw me a bone here, and give me some clues?

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Yeah redvsblue is really good. If you want to download the episodes go here: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ make sure you download episode 0 first the intro first then 1,2,3,4 etc so you know whats going on :D

here is a screenshot from the intro: (its attached)

  9. Bullet Time" provides this game's first major hook - this is where the Marketing team are placing their focus. Bullet time let's you slow the action down to a crawl, allowing you to make those cool sideways dives, twin pistols firing in slow motion - you can even see the bullets flying through the air and the slow motion debris burst from the scenery, should you miss. John Woo would be proud.Fortunately, the Max Payne is not too realistic - there's blood allright and plenty of it - but you wont see any "Soldier of Fortune" style innards or detachable limbs. Don't be fooled into thinking this is one for the kids though - it's dark themes (from just plain nasty murder through to torture and the occult) and stylized "no holds barred" presentation make this game one strictly for adults, ones who know it's just a game at that. The levels vary from inside to outside, concrete jungles to nightclubs and more - the only problem is that it's never hard to figure out where to go. There are some puzzles, sure, but it's not particularly challenging first finding then solving them. However, don't let that make it sound easy - it's not. A lot of the game's difficulty (and it's not easy) comes from trying to find ways to clear out a room with strategically placed bad guys - you die very easily, especially with the amount of munitions some of these chaps are hurling about... add to that the clever adaptive difficulty (if you suck, the game goes easy on you - if you are raking up the baddies, it pulls out all the stops - it can get mind bogglingly tough) and you have yourself a genuine challenge. All in all, while it has it's faults (some early problems with Geforce 3 cards, lack of animation in the facial textures) these are far and away outweighed by the incredible presentation and sheer playability of this stylish contender for the coveted title of "action game of the year" - Halflife won that once before and until Max, we had not enjoyed a game nearly as much. Now, that crown has been passed on - yes, it's different to Halflife, but with the focus firmly on the experience for the gamer, Remedy have hit the nail firmly on the head: This is the game of the year.
