  1. I agree that killing to get the food is wrong. But if the person is already dead...no, then only myself.Call me strange, but If I were on the front lines, stepped on a mine, and got my legs blown off (bear with me, this gets rediculous) and it so happens that one is near me, and also a fire, I might cook my leg and see what my calf tastes like. It just looks so juicy! Obviously, this will never happen. And from what I know about catle being kept in one spot and killed while they're young to get the best meat... being many times older than a cow and having walk/run many thousands of miles, I think legs would be very tough and dry.Drat, now I want a 20 oz. steak.
  2. Fine, your wrong. Why? Because we so far proven that it's undefinable.BTW I just got the 42 thing. I can say this. After reading a book entitle 'meaning of life' written by a German guy 50 some years ago (I'll edit his name to here when I remember) I understood everything. It was impossible to repeat any of the knowladge, even to myself, but I knew that for a split-second I understood and that's good enough. It's like saying that you know how many licks it takes to get to the center of a tootsie-pop. If anyone asks for the number, tell them that they know also.
  3. Not to far away technology will be used outdoors much more often. Devices in our clothes to monitor temperature, send GPS data to family, and call 911 if you say get run over while walking to school. One of the coolest things coming, though, are the see-through LCD screens attached to a headpiece. While playing a football game, you could see the score and location of everyone else on the field... you could access the internet from anywhere... be able to tell you house to cook dinner for you... know that your car is being stolen... but the most relevant thing to this topic is that the technology will be a great tool for us, while being outside, because its smaller, lighterweight, more comfortable and fashionable that earlier such devices. So play games outdoors with technology is my vote.
  4. So do most of us agree that because of the unpredicatablility of how much genetics is involved, we should just be more tolerant of homosexuality? Again, hate the action, not the people.I don't think theists like accepting that exuse because if it's genetic, then it's God's doing. But then that whole free will thing... a challenge for them to overcome and prove devotion to God? No, that's definately not right... Why, then, would people have those urges (in relation to religion)?
  5. True, that does give a purpose to our lives, however, the majority of people that have made it were middle class to start with. The technopeasants without any resources are going to take a long time to build up to our level, so what can be done to change that?
  6. I feel that most economies will be failed expirements. I'd think that eventually, because of the speed of technology, that people would have some identification to show a merchant their position/job, and it's value to society, which would warrent you the privilage to recieve goods and services you need for your job, and personal recreation. No exact figures, because that induces inequality. It would be based off of emotional value... that people would give products away (transaction recorded:computers!) so they could get what makes them happy from another merchant. I wonder how far off the day is that a society could run off good-will.So what if someone hacked into the system, said they were a spaceship captain, and needed several crates of liquor? They guy who 'sold' the drinks to the hacker would still get that transaction credited to him. Then he could get materials for he home he always wanted, and would retire... Bam, he's out of the system. [ADDED: The problem here is people wouldn't go to work anymore. However, without any sign of an employer or someone to verify their work's validity, their record would become suspicous, leading to arest and employment.]
  7. Maybe not even that long ago. A century or 2 ago, all those politcal parties which were just the majority party plus Anti-. Such as Federalists and Anti-Federalists, Democratic-Republican into Democratic and Whigs... there's more I can't remember, but I think it's fairly common to define yourself by what you're not.
  8. Does being pictish explain the tatto/ink in your username and forums? Do you use that millenia old art as inspiration, perhaps? And I guess if it's solitary then you don't have to worry if you're practicing 2000 year old ideas correctly...
  9. Its like what Rufus (the 'apostle') said in Dogma:"Religions got it all wrong by turning ideas into beliefs."If you haven't seen the comedy movie, he went on saying the same thing you are. And it's good to be open-minded. I try to balance Catholicism, science, and religions I notice while watching anime (e.g. Inuyasha). If nobody went outside there own culture you would be restricted by your own language; but by seeing what others believe you can form more advanced ideas than your culture limits.
  10. I was very upset at the suspension of Suprnova. They had many movies and games out the same week as their actual release in theaters and stores. Now who's left? isoHunt and Torr-bott? I havn't been able to connect with the latter, but they had near 200,000 torrents. It doesn't mean we won't be able to get files when we want (forget waiting for dvd releases!), it'll just take some more search time...[you beat me while I was still typing!]
  11. Um, wait. We aren't seeing correctly that they're getting it on with themselves? Or are you saying we have many things in common and just one doesn't bring us apart?
  12. Yes, there is that free will thing... He had to give us the option, just as putting the tree of knowledge in the center of the garden. Which means he expects us to be gay, and of course forgives us. Were only sad confused little humans. Our culture has already gone through swells of lobbys about womens rights and other issues... now it's homosexuality's turn. I suppose in a few years it won't be as bad. If I recall history class correctly, in order to pass an ammendment 3/4 of the states must ratify within 7 years (or hold a constitutional convention, but that's only happened for the 20th).Women's rights was never passed because of this time constraint, and I suspect when it runs out on gay banning, so will most everyone's moral crusading.Could some others join in this? I feel like I'm 1 on 1 here, that's not quite the point of a forum...
  13. You mean the line drawn about homosexual sex? You answered it. God didn't intend for it to be that way. Is that what you mean by "'god's' morality"?I do see a point you might have, and it's very simmilar to the 10th Ammendment in the Bill of Rights. Just because it's not written doesn't mean it's not a right. God gave Adam a different gender partner, but He didn't say, "don't have sex with your same gender," that was always assumed [asumptions are bad!]. Maybe times have changed so that it's not as important to carry on a bloodline? We have alot more free time now, and no plagues to worry about (longer mortality), so now it's possible for more to come out of the closet?I am strange myself, therefore I am very tolerant of others. If I ever saw something realy strange and called that person wrong, I could never do it myself or I'd be a hypocrit.
  14. Homosexuality is accepted if your willing to be called immoral gross and evil alot; as long as your relationship doesn't go into bed.I recall Jesus saying that all those hundreds of rules like only eating clean meat (and shaving your beard) are unneccessary. Also, the bible was never meant to be historically accurate, so there is no way to figure dinosaurs into it. Case and point: the story of the ten commandments we know involves mountains and a golden calf. However the story changed to whomever it was told to, e.g. if you don't know what a mountain is because you live in a desert, the storyteller would have said, 'he came out of a sandstorm'. It changes so many times only the moral of the stories matter, and there's not really anyway to put science against it.
  15. So, we are looking for a meaning for life, so we know what to do, and that our time here was worthwhile. But if there isn't then there are no obligations. It seems that when your obligated to follow parts of your meaning, then you don't climb the economic ladder. Possibly because, higher up the ladder, people have less religous tolerance. Also, most religions practice that you don't need money and power to be happy (that's most likely why.)
  16. Yes, what a delicious conundrum. People who want a title created by a society who is against them, as the society doesn't feel they understand the underlying responsibilities. Apart from this, sorry my posts are like my paragraphs: I've accustomed to creating a new one when the predescesor had to many topics in it. It shall not happen again.
  17. I agree, it is a possibility that I've read to much into their behavior and that its actually just instinctive for animals. What other case, then, can we compare to our own search, if not animals?
  18. I could take it scientifically. There's order and entropy. Entropy is the force which balances everything out. Life is the force which creates order. A great example: putting ice-cubes into a beverage on a warm, humid day. Then the purpose of life is to fight entropy (everything is meaningless, just don't commit suicide.) But to maintain relevance to previous posters...I've had 2 cats, and before each of thier deaths for a week or so they would hide in a closet with their head in a shoe. Both cute and depressing. I believe they do it because when they are born, they cannot see. They are wrapped in their mother's warmth, and recive food. So before they leave this world they do what was their happiest memory. Being in a dark place, shrouded in warmth (a shoe would be further insulative and darker) leaving this exstance to a soft purr, as entered. We debate a purpose now, so that when our time comes we to may leave doing what was belived to be the most fulfilling thing possible in life. However, there was never written such a thing. For everyone searching for your greatest fulfilment, you can only ask yourself. For me? It's laying in bed in a dark room, computer playing soft music and visualizations, listening to my lover breathe. Or jumping off a 2 mile-high plane, screaming all the down. Existance is beautiful in so many ways, the purpose is purly for our own entertainment. I am trying to go beyond words here. I know the meaning of life. It's the feeling when you drop off the world's highest coaster, out of a plane, or ecountering something totally ironic. When you feel it, you will scream it out, because you want it and more, and for it to last forever. Expiriencing this feeling is the meaning [edit: I've put to my] life.
  19. On genetics: doesn't anyone remeber from sociology class that people are 50% genetics and 50% expirience ? This was confirmed in part by many studies done on identical twins. Arguing whether it's genetic or not is fruitless. Its whatever you decide that becomes the outcome, because decision is equally as powerful as genes . There's no way you could determine if it's from your genes or life expirience !
  20. Reply to #33So, tattopunk, you are saying that we should not live by the letter of both the bible and the constitution, but follwing this jist of them. That everyone here should be able to do [nearly] anything they want and we shoyuld all have absolute tolerance?I can deal with that, to a point. Catholics have nothing against homosexual people... up to the point when they are lovers. There view is that if two people of the same sex really do 'love' eachother, then they can be togather, and live through the pain of criticism. What they cannot do is have sex, for the same reason why protected sex is worng. You are doing it both for the gratification and a sort of 'proof' to your lover how much you do care for them. But by using protection, or having sex with someone of the same gender (same thing in this case) the lovers are trying to push into the back of their minds the possibility of children, which is the whole point to sex. This is why they cannot be married (I'll replace that with "bonded togather by God for eternity") because it is not how God intended. By other chuches [aside from Catholic] allowing gay marrige it completely destroys the merit of the sacrament of marrige for Catholics. If homosexuals are going to do it just for the tax benifits then the IRS should create an option for that, but please don't call it marrige. The bible describes life just as it is today, and is very beneficial to read. Why it has always been the #1 selling book for all of history is because it tells parables, which still happen every minute, that can save a person alot of pain [in many ways from many people]. It is certainly not outdated.
