I personally think windows 98 is the best operating system FOR ME.I'm not smart enough to handle linux efficiently without much more practice, and I hate windows xp, me, and 2000. Windows 95 is too old.Mac is certainly better than the newer version of windows, and probably better than windows 98, but it isn't compatible with the stuff that I like to do/play. Neither is Linux, but with linux you have a whole oppertunity of absolutely free stuff with open source to make it ever more fun.Linux is probably the best overall,Then mac.Windows isn't very good, considering:1. Most viruses are for it.2. It's very buggy3. It's just plain slow and inefficient.BUT1. Most things are made for it.2. Most people use it3. It's easy to use.

I think it's for people who aren't serious about making games. You don't have THAT much power over what you do, and it's kind of hard to choose the layout you want. Also, if you've just made a game in c++, your going to feel alot more... prouder than if youve done it in gamemaker. If you want to make money, get a group of people together and make a game in java or c(++). If you want a fun, free game that people will play (and <- snipped -> ;-) ), make a browser game with python/perl/c-cgi and html. If you just wanna make a game, use gamemaker or QBASIC.}

Id say to use black with a neat, abstract, thin design. Just use basic html that's REALLY enhanced with pictures made in gimp for a neat look. If your pictures are great, you can create a great website with just come simple html, and maybe some css, too. For a bit of enhancing, use javascript.

Probably the best way to do it is to take a class or to learn from a sibling or parent A book would be useful, too. After that, it'd be good to try online tutorials. I really have found learning Java to be very difficult. My best luck has come from looking at examples from Freewarejava.com that has something to do with what I want to do.

My borders are all weird when I do netscape, but they look fine in IE. Does anyone know what the difference is? (My website is not online yet, so I can't show you.) Do I have to do a <span> tag around everything?

Javascript Do you use javascript in your page ?
egbert replied to Mathieu_021's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Considering that I only make pages to impress my friends, I use it alot. In fact, sometimes it ends up being more important than the html side of it. I make little games and such (I once made a game where you have to answer math problems, and then you get to punch a picture of me in the face).But, if you're making an advertisement or informal web page, Javascript I use sparingly. You might use it to make something look special, like a moving car or something, but do not make one of those cursor trailers... those are strictly for 'fun' sites. I'd use it to create motion, which attracts attention.Sometimes it is also necessary to use it too, like if they check one checkbox, make it impossible for them to check another or something. I wouldn't use alerts too much, except when they click a button and need to be warned about something.So pretty much, use javascript if you want something to:1. be fun2. draw attention3. change things -
First I think you should plan out how you want it to look on a piece of paper, then, using notepad and html/css, you can easily do it step-by-step. then you shouldn't run into any problems except "I don't know how to do this". And then you can easily find out later, just skip it for then!

I think I'm about even in both. I can create decent graphics, but put them to good use too!I enjoy programming more, because you can do so much more powerful things that way, and you have to be really smart, and it seems more powerful, while any dummy can do something in microsoft paint and then lay it out with frontpage or something.However, you're not going to get very far running a web page by yourself if you aren't very good at making it good-looking.

There's always microsoft paint... But no. Gimp is one of the best tools ever. I can do anything I like on GIMP, I never need anything else. Good for doctoring photos, good for making things look 3d... Just spend a little time on it and you are a photo master!

I like black with some neat design on it. I also like a very light yellow or green. To me that looks 'professional'. Since my sites are not meant to look 'professional', I choose black because it looks 'coolest'.

I like FileZilla. Probably because that's the only one I know/use. I also use internet explorers built-in one, but it's kind of dumb and not powerful.The only problem I have with filezilla is that it's kind of hard to do more than one at once and there is more than i'd ever use on there, so it's sort of confusing. Other than that, it's fine though..But.... my spyware thingy did seem to find spyware on it...
