What I Learned in the Military...As was previously stated, when you take in less, your metabolism slows down. And I'm sure you've also heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day...but did you ever wonder why?The answer is this... each morning, your body sets it's metabolic rate based on how much you take in when you first wake up. So if you're going to be cutting back on your calorie intake, you shouldn't cut the amount you take in at breakfast...and if you don't eat breakfast, you should start. If you don't eat a good breakfast, then your metabolism is slower for the day than it would've been if you had eaten something for breakfast. So if you're going to cut back, cut back on lunch and supper. That way, your intake is reduced while your metabolism isn't reduced (as much). Now, I know that there are those of you out there who are just itching to reply to this to flame me and tell me I'm an idiot, but it's how the U.S. Government teaches people to lose weight...it's not my method or my opinion...it's your tax dollars at work...just a thought...Thanks,Stephen

I know nothing about SE... I am starting school for software engineering in June.. I hope to eventually get a job as a programmer....So, basically, I'm a newbie to everything...I've played with programming a little perl and am starting to play with php and mysql a little bit...I am pretty interested in working with security and hope to get into that area of programming as I start to build a career...this may sound like a stupid question, but I was under the impression that "Software Engineering" was just an official sounding title that they gave to programming..am I way off-base in this assumption? Could someone, maybe, define what we are talking about when we say "Software Engineering"??Stephen

Okay, I currently only have one computer and it is running Win 2K Server (but is not setup as a server...just a home computer w/ dial-up internet...don't ask;). It's alright...some of the service packs/hotfixes are a little buggy, but not too horribly bad...it's definantly better than previous versions of windows. I just don't like the lack of agility. I have ran many distributions of Linux and never found one that I couldn't make it do what I wanted it to do. Yes, sometimes it is very complicated to keep up with it...but I like being able to re-program anything I want to do anything I want. I also like open source for philisophical reasons, but also realize that (Like bootlegging), if it were to become the industry standard, it would ultimately kill it as an industry and make it strictly an underground affair...either way, I'm still a source of the GNU Copyleft and the like... I don't like the lack of quality software for POSIX... The entire software (and gaming) industry is more or less based on the Windows platform (although it wouldn't break my heart to see a hostile takeover by Apple...Macs are pretty sweet) ...as a software engineering student I hate that this is so...maybe I'll be able to get a job with Sun Microsystems and won't have to deal too much with M$...one can hope...Anyways...Windows is the most user-friendly, but Linux and OSx are more stable and more secure... I was thinking, though: If the majority of home users were Linux users, then wouldn't the people writing spyware and viruses just start writing them for Linux?? I dunno...anyways...that's about all I have to say...StephenP.S. To Cryptonx: If someone is worth their salt as a hacker, then they really aren't going to be too worried about some home user who's mouthing off about how he likes windows...No, anyone who's half a hacker has bigger and better things to be doing with their time....no offense, but get over yourself..
