  1. yo guys thanks for the help....i tried all the methods u guys suggested n in the end its juz the ISP's fault.....haha dam them. so now i can surf longer, whew.
  2. Im just starting on MySQL too, may I ask what is a stored procedure??
  3. Personally I think these are the few main factors when it left off few years back:1) 'Good' Marketing, slap in windows as the default os for many major pc distributors.2) Easy to use GUI. Around win 3.11/95, other major OS are still command based/menu based (excluding the mac os). Many apps are built for the IBM x86 platform so tat helped. I think these 2 are major factors. Anyway, I juz feel that people who critisize Windows and yet still use it so often are hypocrites. It is true that windows has some flaws but which os doesnt?? Besides, for the features we get from a wndows pacakge I think that the latest version did pretty well. I for one is a satisfied user of windows.
  4. For. But not bcoz of the advantages.Hmm, as all have said, the advantages outweight the disadvantages, but I think thats juz bcoz we dun really know what the disadvantages are maybe?? But tat dont matter.Example, atomic research. No one would predict that an atomic weapon would be built and dropped on Japanese soil. Although personaly I think that even if anyone did it wouldn't matter coz ultimately moral/ethics/politics are not gonna stop us from doin it. If the research is banned, somewhere someone is gonna start up the research anywayz. For the stem cell dilemma, its not like atomic research is ended. So even though if a disaster is to occur due to the stem cell research, its still gonna be a mainstream research. That which doesnt kill u makes u stronger. As long as its a research that doesnt (seem to) have the capacity to wipe out all humans, its good for our civilisation.
  5. Personally I dun think they are junk too. For me as a programmer, I think these J-DNA are eithery left-over DNA or to-be-in-use DNA.In other words, these J-DNA could be left overs DNA from an earlier generation of evolution. As in computer programming, a program is made out of many many modules (or technically, functions and in the newer age, classes). Code is modified and renewed as the program evolves. In programming world, these unwanted modules will juz be deleted by the programmer/coder. But in DNA world, I think these no-longer-used DNA are the junk DNA. They are there but not in use anymore. On the other hand, they maybe DNA that is there for future use. Much like how a programmer forsees the requirements of a software, the modules are put there so that in any case of need, the modules will be there and need not be written. So these JDNA, which seem to be doing nothing at all, may in fact not yet performed their functions. But of course, my knowledge on DNA is lacking and all this is pseudoscience. Neways, its what i think about the issue.
  6. Ah yes, the promises given fourth by SE....notHaha, sorry for the sarcastic intro but I personally dont quite believe in SE. As BX has mentioned, programmers/SA's/project managers etc, as far as Im concerened dun quite giv a dime on the proper schedule/budget/life-cycle. Maybe its because I've never seen it in action...and produce good results.I figure maybe, just maybe in the big companies like microsoft utilize 'real' SE...or could it be that the peeps that code the kernel is juz another programmer who dont giv a dime on the finish-this-by-this-time-with-this-much-money thing.Geez, and Im gonna be going into this field in the near future...
  7. Well, seems like everyone has their own viewpoint, I'd agree with some but mainly I'd say theres really no who comes first.Personally I think a good programmer would go for both java n C neways juz to get a feel of what/how each works. Of course, eventually one will have to major in one language I suppose...and to be good in both probly aint gonna be easy.C and JAVA in tandem baby.
  8. Yo peeps, anyone into guitars here?? ANywayz, I thought that I'd post a link to a good tab site, it has MANY songs all pre-tebbed for ur pleasure. No need to fiddle with the guitar all day n getting a out-of-tune tab at the end of the day.http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ it out, it also has drums, and bass tabbs too.
  9. Wow, seems like everyone hav their own way of learning/making games. This is so cool. Well, I started off with programming at first, u all should know, all the if..else..then, for(blabla; blaba; blablaa++) stuff. It then eventually moved on to graphics programming. Picked up some 3D skills. Made a crappy game for my final project though . But hey, I know tis gonna be a passion, and for anyone out there I feel ya, and Im pretty sure ya feel me too...right?
  10. 2 websites for u man:http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ i think all the websites u need to get u started on game dev. Of course, after the begining of the journey, its all up to u man. Kudos!!
  11. C# and Managed directX is the way to go man. Why, coz c# is so Object Orientation friendly. Add that with a easy to understand/learn syntax of managed directx and wham, u got yourself a nice games programming language.
  12. Does anyone hav any idea as to why my dialup connection auto disconects/ auto time-out after 15 minutes online time?? This has been going on for quiet some time and I cant figure out why?I hav installed my driver properly.
  13. Flash-Decompiler Check out the URL above, its a flash decompiler which I've used and quiet good!! I don't use any swf grabber though, all I do is look for them in my ie temp folder.
  14. An easy to learn 3D package must be 3D Studio Max. It may have lacked features in the past but with its recent release of version 7, there are a lot of exciting things going on.Besides, 3D Studio Max has all the necessary tools for animation which I like:chracter studio/it's built in bones system.it has now built in mental ray renderer which creates those oh-so-cool advanced lighting effects. What is lackes though is the fur/hair that Maya features. Neways, personally I think Max is so much user friendly than Maya.
