Very nice tutorial, well written and very descriptive. I had no clue you could do this with php. I guess you learn something new every day.Time to go play with this stuff.

It's from google so you know it has to be good. As long as it has a popup blocker and no spyware/adware its fine by me.
-
i like png's due to the fact that you can preserve the layers that were used when you made the graphic. so you can go back in and edit it later on if you want.

Stop anything from making it ur homepage!

My friends computer also has popups every 5 minutes or so. He uses a popup blocker now.I never get any popups and I don't use a popup blocker or spy/ad/mal ware blocker/finder software. And yes, browsing porn sites does get you lots of bad proggies on your computer. -
yes, and decide on your template before you dedcide on your mods so you dont have to go through and add all the mod code to a new template after the fact.
-
Heres another one I just made.

Here is my new sig. What do you think?
-
upload it to your phpbb/templates/ directory.in your admin control panel go to add style and then click on your newly uploaded style.set all the settings how you want them and then go to import.now you can set that as the default and your board is good to go.

full flash sites good or bad?
squirel replied to r3d1405241470's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Just the menu should be in flash. If the page takes too long to load then I am most likely not going to sit there and wait for it. But if when I click on a button it goes spinning around the page or something I'll be ecstatic and probably visit the page more often. Also, flash is very bandwidth consuming so if you plan on a lot of members, plan on a high fee. -
First you must know some basics about how a motherboard works . It has a clock that puts out a certain frequency. This value is multiplied by certain numbers, and gives the Front Side Bus (FSB) frequency, Random Access Memory (RAM) bus frequency, Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) frequency and Advanced Graphics Port (AGP) frequency. The FSB is not the same thing as RAM bus frequency. Also, the RAM and FSB frequencies are different from the actual speed, which is twice as fast, because they are working at double data rate (DDR).For example. 266 FSB runs at 133 mhz.All the speeds on the mother board depend on it's clock speed. The CPU has three important values: it's FSB, multiplier and core voltage. The actual speed of the CPU is FSB frequency times the multiplier. For example: XP1600+ has a 10.5 multiplier value and 133 FSB, so in theory it runs at 1400mhz . You will need a good motherboard that has the option to set the FSB speed, multiplier, core voltage , RAM voltage and RAM latency. Most AMD chips come multiplier-locked, which means you can't change the multiplier settings, so you have to unlock them. There are many guides and programs to unlock your chip on the internet, search for one for your specific chip. Make sure that the CPU is set at the same bus speed as the RAM so that one of the two may use the others left-over bandwidth. For example: If you have PC2700 memory and a 166mhz RAM capable motherboard you should set the CPU to 166 mhz FSB.Lower the multiplier value below the default value until you are around 20% below the default. Now start increasing the FSB keeping the low multiplier. The purpose of this is to keep the FSB stable, no matter what speed the CPU is at. To gain stability at high speeds you must increase the voltage to the CPU and to the RAM, sometimes even to the AGP slot. This is very tricky because voltage brings stability, but also heat. You need a really good cooling setup so you dont fry your chip. Try to keep your CPU under 50 C if possible and no higher than 60 C. When you hit the highest stable FSB, you can start to tweak the CPU multiplier. Increase it in 0.5 increments, until you have the highest possible stable speed. The CPU core voltage increase will help you stabilize this again. Always keep an eye on your CPU temperature and never let it above 60 C.Good Luck

120mm fan to cool the compressors CPU evaporator exit at -100C GPU evaporator exit at -103C Overclocked CPU Speed: 5101 Mhz Memory FSB: 212 Mhz Memory size: 256MB VCore: 1.66 V

running at that high of a clock rate will most likely cause problems with the PCI bus.I have also seen somewhere someone that built a computer inside of a mini-fridge and then overclocked it to 7 gig or so. I will see if I can find it anywhere.

I like the mac os x and if you buy it it should have an upgrade option. How much money are you going to be spending on it?

Out of PHPBB, IPB, and vBulletin which consumes the least amount of bandwidth? Also, which one has the quickest page load time? -
Is there a way I could have it automatically backup every night, without me doing anything to it?
-
Ok. Thanks guys. I can ping between the two. Now I just need to figure out how to configure samba. To the manual.

I was wondering if there was any way to backup one site to another site on a different server. So if the first site goes down you could redirect users to the second site and it would be the same.I looked through the backup in cpanel and it did not seem like it has this functionality. If anyone knows of a script that can do this it would be awesome. Thank You

For the life of me I can not figure out how to go about mounting my Windows share on my Linux box.I read somewhere that I needed to use Samba so I got that and I have no clue what to do.I am not very experienced with Linux and am using RedHat so if you could dumb it down and go through it step by step it would be great. Thanks alot.

ryan012, the public_html folder is where you would put stuff that you want viewable by the public (i.e your html / php). public_ftp is where you would put files that you want people to be able to access through ftping your site.www is just a shortcut to public_htmlmail is where your email is stored.hopefully this helps and if a mod could split this post since it really has no relevance to the topic.

mac or windows? which do u think is better
squirel replied to wannabeeaweak's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I have both windows xp and mac os x in my house and they are both good for different things.windows is good for running just about anything where as mac does not support nearly as much software. Mac has a windows emulator though that allows you to run most windows software.macs are good because they are less prone to viruses and web attacks, also they are really good for graphic design and editing. The mac os is very user friendly and bubbly and cheerful. Windows attempted to emulate this style in the xp os but it still isnt as bright.just my observations -
I like mandrake for its ease of use and really nice looking and customizable user interface.I like redhat for its security and for its automatic update thing. It keeps it pretty much up to date with all the new features and security updates.

PHP has an upload limit of 2 Mb. So any file over 2 mb you wont be able to upload using a php script.

I prefer phpbb over the other boards. phpbb is open source and there are thousands of mods for it. http://www.phpbbhacks.com/ also if you dont mind shelling out some cash, invision power board is a very nicely designed board. (thats what this board is)
