As far as i know, you dont need to always use 'localhost', its just the easier and more desired. Obviously if you were really advanced you would be able to do it the other way by putting the IP address or the URL.For people that don't have much experience or knowledge about the webserver for the MySQL databases, then i would suggest leaving it at 'localhost'.

Well, thank you for that info about where to advertise websites. Ive had a look at that site, man they nearly advertise most websites. Not a very userfriendly site in my opinion. A bit of random advertising and text here and there. I suppose after a while you will get used to it.Anyway, i prefer to rely on word of mouth and posting it on other sites that are relevant to the topic of the website. And thanks other people, for telling us all not to use that autosurfer thing. Well of course it wont work on most things as most are 1 unique visit is 1 IP address for a certain time period (set by site owner).

It is (as i believe) caused by the server. It has nothing to do with viruses. It happens to my cPanel as well, I generally sometimes find that Internet Explorer is a bit faster at accessing cPanel, but still not a desirable access speed. I have had many other free hosting accounts with cPanel, yet some work quite fast, others are just like Xisto's cPanel. I also have ADSL (yet mine is 256k) and find it quite relatively slow.As i have said, im pritty sure that the slowness of cPanel is caused by heavy bandwidth to the server and maybe just that the servers maybe slow sometimes during the day.

How To Disable Password Expiration (xp) Windows XP
TheJeffsta replied to soleimanian's topic in Software
Yes, it seems to be an optional setting for XP nowadays. I have never had that promt on my Windows XP machine either. The last time i recieved that prompt was in Windows 98SE (not 2000 as i think my dad changed the settings - he hasnt touched our XP machine settings yet!). But this info provided to us should be useful for those people out there that had enabled that setting yet are now getting annoyed with it. -
Creating A Forum How do I make one for myself?
TheJeffsta replied to Lukey535's topic in Websites and Web Designing
phpBB forums are good (and free). They can be installed using Fantastico in cPanel or be uploaded via FTP from your PC. My forum was made using phpBB: My Forumhttp://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ To download the latest version, visit phpBB Bulletin Board Downloads My forum is currently using the iCGStation skin/theme which is a 3rd party skin/theme created by Ray of iOpional (korean site - theme is english). You should be able to find a download of this if you like it, or you could search for a different/better one. -
Hacking -requires Immediate Admin Attention! Hacking
TheJeffsta replied to stusrud's topic in Web Hosting Support
You should probably PM (Private Message) some admin and address the problem, that would be the more reliable method. Admin don't always look through all forum posts, so therefore it may be faster to use the PM feature of this forum.Did they just randomly get your email address? You should also maybe use the 'Contact Us' feature on the homepage to get further help with the problem.B)May HELL be unleashed to all hackers!!!!!!!! -
Hey, thanks for that! The program actually looks quite good. Im not sure about it ease of use yet, but they have a forum for help and video tutorials. You need to be a member of their forum to download? What rubbish, they have a link going straight to the file on the link you gave us. But you could have warned us it was a 60MB download (27 minutes at 35Kb/s) .Id advise 56k users to either download it when you go out or at night or not using the computer, as it would probably take a few hours (30 minutes with a 256k connection).Although this is the learning edition, it provides all of the features of the actuall program and all non-limited usage. So basically the same as the proper version (2.0) but thats according the the developers of the program - users may have a different opinion.

Well, As i normally go away at Christmas, Easter etc. I was just wondering, when you get to 0 and below hosting days left, do they just stop visitors to your site or would they delete the account?I normally go away for atleast 10 days - at christmas normally about 20 or 30 days.I know that it would be best to keep my credits above say 30 or 40, but after a while i would get annoyed with having to keep posting to keep my credits up. Well as this hosting is supposed to be given to us for contributing in their forum, they should make it that you need to post atleast 5 times or something like that in 2 or 3 months (60-92 days). Then their would be less stress to keep our sites active and not forcing us to post heaps and heaps to keep our sites active. They should let us post when we like, but have a certain amount of posts we need to post every 2 months or so. The posting credits at the start to get the hosting account should stay, its just after the hosting accounts being accepted that they need to change the system of making sure people are active on this forum.Note: I cannot always access this forum due to some internet error with my ISP or something (i think my ISP blocks Xisto from some IP addresses or Xisto block some of my ISP's IP addresses)

OMG, that code is soo big. I prefer the one that i have on my site at the moment. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ The only downside is that is takes about 5-10 seconds to load. Oh and it could have done with a better layout (appearance).

Problem With Asta Subdomain: Ftp, Cpanel Failure
TheJeffsta replied to TheJeffsta's topic in General Discussion
I have Slingshot (an Australian / New Zealand ISP). Sometimes i am able to get to my site and this site without problems, yet sometimes i cant get to it at all - the only access thing is FTP and Cpanel that work, it doesnt wokr via http. Oh well, sometimes it does, sometimes doesnt. If it happens again i will start cantacting my ISP. -
Lol, the average download size will prob. go up to like 500MB or 1GB for programs in the future. lol 500KB used to be like todays 100MB . Well my average download size now is 100MB (just to believe 1MB games were put onto CD's and sold!). Yes, I do remember those 5 1/4 inch floppy disks - at school on my first year (primary school) i "broke" one ("broke" - my friend and i was playing the game on it, he then took it out and wrecked it. It was a pritty gay game when you go back to think about it - forgot what it was and what you had to do, i only remember it was stupid.

Problem With Asta Subdomain: Ftp, Cpanel Failure
TheJeffsta replied to TheJeffsta's topic in General Discussion
Ok... Why arent we able to edit our posts Oh well. Here is a pic of the error: OMG, I am soo sick of errors with this hosting company. Errors here, database errors there, ... shoutout box errors.... "Server Error The following error occurred: The server response could not be read because of an error. Contact your system administrator. Please contact the administrator." -
Problem With Asta Subdomain: Ftp, Cpanel Failure
TheJeffsta replied to TheJeffsta's topic in General Discussion
I can login to Cpanel via http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ (but currently it says 'Page cannot be found' which is the same i get when i try to get to my site. This is really peeing my off, i goto see my site and all of that, to find that i cant even get to the bloody site at all. i cant view other users websites if they are hosted at an actaul domain name e.g http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/,'>http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/, but when its http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ i cannot access it. I can get through on FTP now, but when I upload my site, I actually want to be able to bloody well test my site before i tell more people about it. The last time i told people about my site, my old free hosting company thought it would be funny if they stopped all images to be displayed to user websites, creating very pathetic, useless websites. I could access my site the other day, but i couldnt access this forum at all. Now i can access this forum, i cannot access my site via http (port 80) and sometimes Cpanel (port 2082) - accessed it 10 minutes ago, yet i couldnt get to my site. -
Omg, this inactive days left system is really annoying. Like, im planning to go away on holiday for Christmas and then I now have this damn worry of making sure i have enough credits to keep my hosting going. And omg, either this hosting company is blocking my computer/ISP from user sites or my ISP is just being useless and blocking me from accessing user sites hosted at Xisto. Before, when i first signed up for my account, i could get to the forum (here) then i could get to my site - at that stage it wouldnt let me get back to the Xisto website. Now my site wont work and this forum will display on my PC. This is really annoying yet i suppose i will have to live with it since i dont want to pay for the same sort of hosting from elsewhere. I would register a domain name, yet nearly all registrars only allow payment by credit card. I need one that allows you to pay via Bank transfer etc. using a site such as PayByCash.com. Ok, i went a bit of topic but, when my request for hosting was accepted, i got a link to https://support.xisto.com/. Oh, well, it now seems you got your hosting after a while.

Problem With Asta Subdomain: Ftp, Cpanel Failure
TheJeffsta replied to TheJeffsta's topic in General Discussion
Well i have sort of fixed the problem. I can connect to and add/remove things via FTP to 69.50.168.69 with my FTP username and password at port 21. And i can also access my Cpanel account now. But the mystery of not being able to get my site via web browser (port 80) is weird. -
Ok, i requested my free web hosting package no. 2 yesterday and then later my request was accepted. I followed the email and went the the url it said to. I went through all of the details and put in TheJeffsta.astahost.com and all of that. It went through the processing stage and it then finished that. It gave me my account details and all of that - which currently still do not work - and it then said near the bottom 'Account Creation Complete!!!'. I went into my FTP program - SmartFTP and started logining in with the givin details. It said that it couldnt find the host. I tried with the browser (both Mozilla FireFox and Internet Explorer) and still didnt work. I tried the cpanel details, yet with the same effect, it wouldnt let me login to cpanel. I could only get through to the cpanel login if i clicked on the http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ link - and the given IP was shared with some random person. Just typing in my url in the browser didnt work either, it could not be found. What am i supposed to do? I have followed all instructions given but then it says '2. You can access FTP at ftp.thejeffsta.astahost.com.com. Which i think means i stuffed up with the registraton, but then for my cpanel the url is http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ I desperately need help, unless there is just some current problem with the servers.

What on earth ? He needs to change his/her website url thing, yet he hasnt got hosting yet? Is this just because his/her request is still being reviewed or what? If you have signed up for a hosting thing and it has been granted to you, they will place you in the [HOSTED] group.

The best Spyware remover, that ive used would have to be Spybot Search and Destroy. I have also used other programs such as Bullguard, Ad-aware which are all good programs but are just good to just be the bit more certain about not have spyware on your computer. I would give Spybot Search and Destroy an 8 out of 10Another good protection program is Zone Alarm Security Suite. It features Privacy Control, ID lock, Antivirus, Antispyware, one of the best firewalls. I would give Zone Alarm Security Suite a 9 out of ten.

What Speed And Package U Getting From Your Isp? Is it worth it.
TheJeffsta replied to firewire's topic in Computer Networks
Well, im from a different country than USA and therefore is will be an approximation of the US price. I have 256 download / 128 upload. I have a 2GB bandwidth limit - which is soo annoying and restricting. I pay $40NZD per month (about $28USD). My ISP is Singshot NZ I also have a stupidly pathetic modem/router. I have a Billion 7100S modem/router that takes liek 30 - 150 seconds to connect - which i thought wasnt righ, but according to billion it can take upto 5 minutes depending on my phone line condition. My aunties 40 year old telephone wires and cheap, sale ADSL modem connects in 2 seconds at the VERY most. -
the best, easiest and most reliable way of uploading big or just lots of files is via FTP. I recommend using an FTP program such as CuteFTP or SmartFTP. This method is handy when uploading Vbulletin or phpBB forums etc. For more good FTP programs: FTP Section of Download.com

Gmail: Simply The Best Comparations make it clear
TheJeffsta replied to herenvardo's topic in General Discussion
lol, i have only like 5MB combined with 4 gmail accounts. Im using it cause I like googles services and this one is one of the best. Other good google products are google earth, cant see my house but can see other places such as were microsoft and all that are lol.I remember when there was a big rush for gmail invites and invites selling on ebay and all that for like $100. Now you just go anywhere and basically most people have a gmail account. -
It would be handy if you had quite a lot of todays games (that take up like 3GB each) and all of the essential things. Plus music fanatics would be able to keep all their music and dont forget all of those big downloads lol. 300GB would be definately enough for me - i only have 1.5GB of music on my PC and a few games.Think about that, never uninstalling a good game just cause of lack of space on hard drive. Well i suppose you will run out eventually, but remember how all of those old games were only like 100KB and now they are like 3GB, try and think about what they will be in 10, 20 or even 30 years time. 30GB games lol
