  1. I use and really like Smart FTP. Smart FTP is one of my favourite programs. It is a very good FTP program. Smart FTP is Windows only though which is ashame, but I know how to get it working on Linux.I have also used gFTP. Gnome FTP for Linux
  2. Blender 3D is a free open source program for creating film effects and that. I have not got it yet, but it can create some really impressive stuff. I have seen some graphics that were made in it. Blender 3D started off as a commercial program that did not work out. Blender 3D is cross platform Windows, Linux, and Mac. https://www.blender.org/
  3. Windows Media Player is ok, but comes with Windows and so loads of people use it. There were law suites in USA about making Windows Media Player not come with WIndows. This would give competitors more of a chance. Windows Media Player is ok. Winamp is pretty good, some people would say it is much better than Windows Media Player. There are loads of media programs around that are better than both Windows Media Player and Winamp. Foobar 2000 is a free open source media player for Windows. Sure it is not good at all when it comes to graphics, but it can play loads of media files. http://www.foobar2000.org/ Realplayer is pretty good.
  4. Crackers are the cyber criminals that will brake into a computer and cause damage. Or brake into a computer without permission, but do not cause damage. A Hacker is a person that knows a lot about computers. A hacker can also be a programmer. For example a hacker could hack the code for a program. As in they could edit the code for a program. The media though call the people who are really crackers hackers though, because the majority of people think that a hacker is the bad guy. It would be better if the media for example put in an article hacker (cracker) or something. Or just made it clear that really it is not hacker and it is cracker and what the difference is.Then there are these people who think it would be cool to be able to hack. In this case as in crack, but they will use the word hack.In companies they have people who are paid to legally crack computer systems. As in test the security of computer systems.
  5. I just registered my account for http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ I copied and saved the information that came up into Open Office Writer (a program like Word that is much better), but there is no information about logging into the FTP or Control Panel. So how do I log into FTP and the Control Panel.
  6. Linux is about being secure, but if a user is running it whilst being the admin root they will be less secure. FreeBSD, Solaris, Mac OS X and those other operating systems like that were also made to be secure.Windows was more about being made to be user friendly than secure and that is why it is so insecure. Windows Vista will be an improvement when it comes to security, but not enough of one I expect.
  7. Windows is on it's way out. Companies and home users who actually know enough about computers avoid Windows. They will use other operating systems such as Linux or Mac OS X. In about five or ten years time there will be a lot of Linux all over the place probably. If or when this happens a lot of public computers will be using Linux. Using Linux is a lot more secure than using Windows. Even if a public computer was using Linux or Mac OS X and you were to log into email or a forum, it would be a good idea to change the password after woulds.
  8. I use a Yahoo.co.uk email account that I have set up to use Mozilla Thunderbird. Mozilla Thunderbird is a lot more secure than Outlook Express and Outlook. Just like Mozilla Firefox is much more secure than Internet Explorer. Mozilla Firefox and Mozilla Thunderbird are a nice combination to have together. Why is Mozilla Firefox and Mozilla Thunderbird much more secure? It is, because they are free open source programs that have many developers coding them from all over the world. The majority of the Firefox or Thunderbird developers are hobbyists and do not get paid to code Firefox or Thunderbird. With open source programs the source code is available for anyone to get hold of. Yes this does include the bad guys, but with popular open source programs such as Firefox and Thunderbird any security issues that they find out about get fixed really quickly. Where as a software company with Microsoft being a prime example, it can take over a year before security issues are fixed in a program, if they ever get fixed at all.
  9. I got a Hotmail account that is used for MSN messenger or Gaim. The Hotmail account is not just any account. In fact it is probably one quite a lot of other people would want, but it is mine. I have also had random people from the web adding me to their list. I get Spam to it every day.I use a Yahoo.co.uk email address for my emails that I have also set Mozilla Thunderbird to use. Mozilla Thunderbird is much more secure and better than Outlook Express. Mozilla Thunderbird is not just ready to fully compete against Outlook though.
  10. Internet Explorer holds the whole web back from becoming a lot better, because of it's huge market share and lack of http://www.w3.org/ web standards support as in the web page coding it supports and how. This means that the majority of web sites are made for it. As a result of this they are not as good as they could be, because they are not using web standards coding that can do really good stuff to these web pages. Certain web sites are only made for Internet Explorer this is bad, because web sites should be made to work on more than one browser. If Internet Explorer had about 50% market share and standards compliant browsers such as Firefox had about 50% market share. We would probably have a much better web. The majority of web sites would probably validate or nearly validate at W3C. Some web sites might even make more than one version. One version for Internet Explorer and another for standards compliant browsers. In fact maybe, just maybe, Internet Explorer would be a standards compliant browser or nearly if it had about 50% market share and the other browsers such as Firefox had about 50% market share. Why people should choose FIrefox: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Most of the text on that webpage is by me, because I helped the guy with the text for that page.
  11. I used Fedora Core 2 for some time, but then later on upgraded to Fedora Core 4. However soon after that I removed Fedora. I use Ubuntu now and it is pretty good.
