  1. What kind of file is it? try photorec. http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec It recognizes 320 file types, http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ I recently accidentally formatted an SD card, and photorec revovered 1500 files, only has 2 corrupt, which is pretty good. It works on : DOS/Win9x Windows NT 4/2000/XP/2003/Vista/2008/7 Linux FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD Sun Solaris Mac OS X (can be compiled on any UNIX os) I did mine on ubuntu, but it should work on os's stated above. hope you can retrieve your file!!
  2. You know, my Mac pro isn't a server... It says "12-core WORKSTATION" just saying, it's not the newest models, when apple didn't realease the Mac pro server. It was the model before that...Just correcting your mistakes
  3. whoa a nice and COLORFUL tree :Pamazing, didn't know most distros came from debian... and a lot of them i haven't even heard oftoo many to try out!!! if there are just ~20, i'll be happy to test them all
  4. HEY I'm just 14 i tried out mint, quite a good distro... oh my idea was already used... DARN XD
  5. whoa i didn't knew linux had shareware stuff.... thats not a good sign though...well free games are what we all want!! if you want a better gaming experience (graphics, etc.) then pay for the stuff! If you're like me and like classics like tetris, free stuff ftw!! XD
  6. ahh whoops..... sorry about thatcause i had the same issue, but i was dealing with html files...never had experience with wordpress, sorry D:
  7. Theres another easier option, but will definitely but not manageable if the site is huge...IF the site is small, around 10 pages, just edit the html file for each one! remove the anchor of the unneeded link, which will remove the hyperlink, and just display text. btw, an anchor is <a> and ends with </a>
  8. okay...... how about this:a Custom distro based on a standard distro?then you can use the support for the standard distro, for the custom.e.g. made custom distro based on ubuntu. then you can use ubuntu support, which will most probably work for the custom distro as well!!!if this can be done, it should be ideal
  9. oh... well if you do heavy duty stuff then, of course linux doesn't have it, but theres always open source alternatives, like GIMP (alternative for photoshop) I mostly do my programming on linux, experimenting with bash scripts, and stuff like that, which feels more at home on linux than on macs, cause macs are all elegant and stuff. Linux is more messy, and so it feels better to me if I do the scripting on it!
  10. I think people use linux because its open source? so developers that wish to contribute to this distribute their software for free. All games on linux is free, which makes the user feel free to try them out. A firm may like to make a "lite" version of a game and release it for linux, then make a "full" version of it, for other platforms, which allow them to receive revenue, and also make their software known to more users. I've never heard of any company doing this, but I think its a good idea...well, the only game i really play on linux is quadrapassel (tetris clone), but there are many others, which should appeal to others. I've tried Mines (minesweeper) which is quite nice. Most games on linux are clones of classics, probably because they are simple to make and maintain, so people don't charge for it, and just distribute it open source.happy linux gaming!
  11. Wow that's an interesting read I'll probably try it on one of my many dead harddrives. will report back when I get something done!
  12. Hahhaa never heard of that before, but it is totally true!! Have you made a distro yet?
  13. Yeah, apple keeps people away from terminal, but doesn't stop you from using it! I use it on a day to day basis :PI'm happy with the way things are going in Mac osx. Linux is fun! Shows how much you can actually do on a computer, Including customization, which is where Linux from scratch comes in. Users should get used to Linux and terminal, then compile their own distro after they are comfortable with it
  14. You sure about that? cause I started off as a mac user, and just messed around with linux half a year ago :PWhy i'm attached to linux? cause of terminal :Pstill using macs as primary though
  15. yeah i know! I've never seen a webhost use sftp, i don't know if thats even possible.Just pointing out that they can connect via sftp as well as ftp.
  16. try co.cc!!its free, and no ads cause its just the domain, not hosting.I use webfreehosting.net for free hosting, which doesn't require ads on site.
  17. not too hard, but linux from scratch good for people that want a lot of customization, and also allows the person to understand more of the strucure of linux distros
  18. thats good to know, that it isn't only me that experienced this problem no worries, i don't play that anymore. its a good example of an app that doesn't really work on wine.
  19. games that make you play in fullscreen. mind testing this out for me? http://www.aeriagames.com/ijji its a third-person shooter, which i used to play on windows. when i tried this on wine, it doesn't work...
  20. hmm weird... maybe fullscreen games? cause its the one i tried and it didn't work
  21. oh now that you mention it, i remember macs have this kind of function as well, to mount ftp servers as if its local. open finder, and click "Go" -> "Connect to Server". or just type <cmd>+<k>. A window like the one below will pop up. type it the ftp server, but remember to add "http://forums.xisto.com/to the beginning, because this feature is uses "a http://forums.xisto.com/; (apple file sharing protocol) by default. Then, its the same as always, you click "Connect", then type in username and password. and you're connected. If you want to save the credentials, click "Add to Keychain". this might be better than Cyberduck, but I find Cyberduck more user friendly. idk why
  22. yep! linux from scratch is definitely better!!! i made a distro, and its quite cool. its fun to do as well!! http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/
  23. Wine is good, but doesn't work for a lot of windows apps :Pno facebook for 5 months??? how come? you can always find alternatives
  24. Hahah youre welcome Try this site!! It suggests a few games that you may like http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ They are free as well so no harm in trying them out! Have fun!!
