Tell Me If This'll Work

Recommended Posts

I want to take an OS on my desktop and copy it directly to my laptop. The story?I wanted to install Zorin (Linux) to my laptop and keep Windows on it too. Zorin's installer wouldn't let me install over a different Linux (Fedora-14). Due to certain factors, I decided to just format the HDD for Zorin to use for its self. Then I find that Zorin doesn't support my sound card. I then decided to try OpenSUSE. I didn't like it too well, so I wanted to reinstall Windows. As far as I'm aware of, the Windows install disc is nowhere near my house. My desktop, however, has Windows XP on it. I formatted the laptops HDD to put Win XP back on it.Can I do what the first sentence says I want to do? Or do I have to wait to get the disc back?

You might have a copy of it on your computer already. Take a look at this link for additional details: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ you did not find that helpful, you might want to try searching Google for a Free Windows OEM version. Sometimes they will release it for free or cheap because it's now old and will be obsolete soon -- no support is going to be offered eventually, due to Windows 7 being the dominant new Microsoft OS.

1. Not what I was asking.

2. Late on the reply, but at least someone replied.

3. I'm also a little late, but the CD was not at my house, but I did get it back and got Windows reinstalled.

4. That wouldn't 've helped anyways as installing Zorin my HDD was formatted.

5. I'm still curious as to my original plan would work.

I apologize for misunderstanding. In re-reading my reply to your post, I am confused as to why I wrote that. And I think I was working on problem with something else.. having to do with my Mac OS partition and Windows and thought you had a similar problem. There are programs that will make clones / copies / backups of your entire hard drive so they can be moved on to a new partition.

That is (sort of) exactly what I need. Does what I was need of it. Haven't tried it yet, but I will soon. As a matter of fact, I most probably will tomorrow.
