Xdrive Offers 5 Gigabytes Free!

I forget where I found this so I can't post a link, but apparently XDrive is now giving away 5 GIGS FREE!! Personally, I LIKED XDrive before AOL bought them. I think that being an AOL company is going to affect XDrive and I think it is (if you're able to offer 5 gigs, it sounds like the servers are very empty).

 

I trust that they're giving away 5 gigs, but it's a company with AOL at the hem. No thanks.

 

What do you think? Is having AOL in charge a problem for a potential good service?

I used to use XDrive for storing some of my files, but dropped it after they went to paid. Page to signup is at:

It asks for your AOL/AIM screen name to do the signup.

While searching for this XDrive 5 gig info, I bumped into MediaMax:

They offer 25GB of online storage, but there are restrictions (like only 1GB download per month).

I currently use box.net which only offers a paltry 1 GB with their free service. I have so far only used it to transport files between computers (instead of constantly carrying a USB thumbdrive) and have therefore not found much need for more disk space.I am thinking though that I should also use an online service to back up my important data (yes, I am living on the edge). In case my Dell laptop catches on fire with its exploding battery adaptor or my home crumbles in flames, at least my data are secure elsewhere.I am still leery though of online storage services. How do I know my data are secure from prying eyes? I don't have anything THAT confidential, but I would nonetheless prefer to keep my data to myself. Encrypt? Get GPG or something to encrypt your files.

There is also ".mac". They have 1 GB storage with 250 GB transfer and a whole bunch of other features (web page, photo album, calendar, backup, email, auto-syncing, etc.) They also have a family pack where you get up to five accounts, 1 GB shared, and 2 GB split among the separate accounts. I've used .mac before, and though it is a bit pricy, the tools provided are very high quality and the service is very reliable. It is also Mac centric, which is a big plus for me :-)

My friend uses Xdrive since his country only allows abut 1 gb a month on the computer. I think it is New Zealand or somethingWell, I am going to use Xdrive since you can store stuff onto it. I will probably store a lot of files that I may need in the future, like my homework assignments and all the MODs I have from my phpBB forum

What do you mean by the country only allows 1GB a month? Does the gov have control about how much they can store on their computers? That's just crazy so just wanna know what the deal here is.

Alright, I finally got to check out the Xdrive.com website after countless attempts of trying to view it, and I found it quite good. I saw screenshots of the whole interface thing and it looks pretty good. I haven't been able to sign up to it yet because I'm in school at the moment but I'll sign up for this service as soon as I get home.

So far I'm currently using the following hosts:

http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/, which offers 2GB of data no file extension restrictions except for .htm files. Unlimited Bandwith which is pretty good.

http://www.eggdisk.com/, which allows 6GB of file and 30GB of bandwith which is a lot. Also, this has no file restrictions.

The only problem I have with these two services is that I can't batch upload files that contain folders in the .zip file. That's why I'm going to try XDrive and see if they do offer batch uploading with folders.

Alright, I signed up for the service and uploaded about 225MB of files so far using the Xdrive desktop uploader. I gotta tell you, this eHard Drive rocks! If you download the desktop uploader and connect to ur online Hard drive, an "X:" drive will appear on your "My Computer" panel and you wil be able to access it and paste all the files in there with a breeze!

I recommend this site to anyone who's a little secure about their computer crashing and losing very important files. I also recommend it to those who are almost running out of hard disk space (like me). The layout of the cPanel are so easy and very appealing.

Cons: Direct linking is either disabled or there's a difficult way of doing so.
Simple solution to problem: Use Eggdisk.com and upload those that you want to direct link.
