I'm using the latest version and I just need to get the drivers installed. I've searched and searched, but I can't figure out how to login as root and execute commands in the terminal as root. I USED to know, like a really long time ago, but I can no longer find my old documents that I had printed out with the command.Perhaps one of our kind Linux users would like to assist a noob to Linux? I'm glad to be in the whole Linux world now. Time to finally start migrating away from Windows, spyware and viruses! qwijibow 0 Report post Posted March 3, 2006 Follow the instructions that yiu downloaded with the Nvidia driver.to jump start you...from a terminal whilst loged in as a normal user. su -<password> or login as root in command line (dont login as root in graphical mode)im not sure about debian, but most linux distro's give you 7 login terminals, where the first 6 are command line, and the 7th is graphical X desktop.use ctrl+alt+FUNCTION_KEY to switch between login consoles...e.g. ctrl+alt+F7 to go to graphical login.ctrl+alt+F1 to login on the first command line terminal. For further details, please see the chapter "Intalling the NVIDIA Driver" in the README available on the Linux driver download page at http://www.nvidia.com/page/home.html.Well, I checked out some docs provided by NVIDIA and Debian. Supposdly, I can change the runtime with "init #" but no matter what, it appears X is running on each runtime level!
