Xp Power Toys Just for people who havent got there yet

I know that most people on here probably know about and are using the power toys but here is the link to those who aren't

I think they are great and make xp much more useable. im currently using: cleartype tuner - which makes lcd screens much nicer, tweak ui - which adds really useful customization and the multi desktop feature which is nearly as good as the linux version. i haven't noticed any system drain from them either

I agree, Tweak UI really is a necessary tool I think! For a while they had removed the download from their website, I don't know why. Even the old Tweak UI version from Windows 98 runs under XP without problems.

I love TweakUI, it adds a lot of hidden functionality to Windows. I remember a PowerToy I used to use, don't recall the name, but it generated automatic playlist for Windows Media Player, it was pretty cool.

How do these power toys affect the performance of the pc? I mean, are they really functional, or are they just toys to make turn xp into a more user friendly environment???

At least Tweak UI doesn't have any effect on your system's performance, it does not run in the background, it only gives you the opportunity to configure hidden system settings.

Does the Alt-Tab replacement tend to slow down your computer? I constantly have about 30-40 windows open, and my computer slows down, but since about 10 of these windows are IE, the alt tab isn't the best. Since I only have 512MB of RAM (+256MB video RAM) my computer is much better handling graphics than multitasking, but I still don't want to install anything that will slow down my computer. (No AOL for me)And what about the multi desktop, it sounds really useful, and would let me keep my workspaces seperated, but at the same time, running 4 workspaces sounds like it would slow your computer down, especially if you enter a high power app like photoshop, and you have a ton of other programs in other desktops.RAM (and HDD space) has always been a problem for me, especially since I love to use laptops (with Windows Media Center Edition, and TV tuners)

That has to be the most annoying thing about i.e. - just use firefox and then you can have 10 tabs open in one taskbar slot.

I've been using the multidesktop thing for a while now and i dont think it makes any difference, just makes life easier. i guess what it atually does is just hides taskbar slots and open windows in difference desktops. it calls itself virtual desktops to i dont think its anything complicated. people have used it in linux for years and ive never heard of anyone removing it for power reasons. just try it an see

I use System Mechanic 4 and it helps me a lot. Is anyone else using Sym Mechanic?
