Xandros Linux

Recommended Posts

Anyone here ever use Xandros? I will be switching to it once I get my new PC hardware after my motherboard died officially, lol.I have picked Xandros as my Linux choice because it has some Windows support built into it. I read about Xandros in a magazine and it said that Xandros was great for those who want to use Linux without leaving some Windows features behind. My friend downloaded some version of it installed it and gave me a copy of it to use. He says that it feels like Windows, but it has some Linux feel too. As you can tell, my friend and I have been experamenting with Linux on and off. I have played around with a SuSE Linux distro I got at a Novell/IBM session and didn't like it because, well, 1) Linux seems to be a new world, 2) .EXE files don't run in Linux unless you have something like Wine installed, 3) it was just to tricky! But as far as I can tell, I know I'll like Xandros because even my friend likes it and I have seen screen shots of Xandros as well and it does seem to be a cross of Linux and Windows.<--- Everything on this side of the task bar looks like Windows---> Everything on this side of the task bar looks like LinuxAlso, the desktop looks like Windows too, but instead of My Computer, there's My Linux. And (I should remember this from my Linux session last summer) is the home directory like My Documents in Windows? And if you or you know someone who uses Xandros can give me some advice on it, that would be great![N]F

I have tried all of them and unfortunately have to say, none of XP competitors satisfy my requirements :o I'd love to switch over to linux or unix, but there are so many annouying things there that I'm still waiting for the one which can do the job properly.Unix type OS is ok if you are either IT professional, just like to play around PC's or happy with very simple and limited setup. My Xandros installation failed about 50 times before I finally lost hope to get it going at all.I recommend you to try Ubuntu Linux. It has way better recognition of your hardware and does find even MS network stations without giving any technical specs I got no idea about.Jack

Na, Xandros is all thumbs down I say. It doesn't give you the oomph power. Xandros isn't recommended if you run powerful programs because it isn't optimized for heavy programs and it doesn't let you to actually learn your system and further improve your skills.xboxrulz
