Google Web Accelerator (beta)

correcting hostiong credits.

Google Web Accelerator is an application that uses the power of Google's global computer network to make web pages load faster. It is easy to use; all you have to do is download and install it, and from then on many web pages will automatically load faster than before.

Google Web Accelerator uses various methods such those stated below to improve the loading time of web pages.

•Sending your page requests through Google machines dedicated to handling Google Web Accelerator traffic.

•Storing copies of frequently looked at pages to make them quickly accessible. (And giving you access to other people's accounts...)

•Downloading only the updates if a web page has changed slightly since you last viewed it. (Through RSS feeds I think)

•Prefetching certain pages onto your computer in advance.

•Managing/Optimizing your Internet connection to reduce delays.

•Compressing data before sending it to your computer.

For more information on this program. please visit: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

Please take note that this program is still in beta test mode and there have been concerns about this product leaving you logged into sites as other users since it automatically stores and updates the content of pages accessed through it. The same thing happened to me when I visited the phpbb2 community forum.

Notice from PC Astray:

For your information, I did not just Copy & Paste this entire post and at least I made an effort to add in my opinions...No offense but I do not see the reason for doing this when I can see lots of people doing the same.

I downloaded it and tried it, but my pages are really doing the opposite of loading faster, perhaps I have a too fast internet connection, so it won't make any difference. But tell me if it works with other :(.

I wonder why it doesn't work with my firefox... When I click "Start Google Web Accelerator", it just stays at the next screen forever. Does it work for any of you with firefox out there?

I have a relatively fast connection speed anyway, but I will probably check out this accelerator later on tonight anyways.I primarily use Firefox. Another user says that they have been experiencing difficulties when coupling this thing with Firefox? Oh well. We will see. Either way, it is still pretty awesome. I worry in a couple years when Google has the consumers cornered with its innovations, will it suddenly start charging for all its monopolies? It has got an awesome hold on mail services right now, and I would not be surprised if they took over on web acceleration and began releasing website hosting as well. O: We will see.<3

System RequirementsOperating System: Win XP or Win 2000 SP3+
Browser: IE 5.5+ or Firefox 1.0+
Availability: For users in North America and Europe (during beta testing phase)

:( doesnt work with linux ? :D
im quite surprised, it jus looks like a suped up proxie to me, couldnt be that difficult to port to linux.

to pc_astray:
i sent you a pm... No problem with you post, its just that the rules say you should only get extra hosting credits for things you write yourself. As you forgot to use quote tags, the system will have given you too many hosting credits. the note i posted is not aimed at you, its to stop other mods from re- adjusting your credits again.

sorry for the mis-understanding.

Ohh, and if you catch other people plageriseing material, please hit the report button under the post.
i guarantee that a moderator will take a look.

qwijibow, maybe you could help PC Ashtray add in some quote tags, then remove those notices? They are quite hideous. I'm sure it'd fix the problem after you add in the quotes, and reduce part of the credits.Back on topic: I don't know why, but the Google Web Accelerator seems to work fine now... But it doesn't seem to help a lot. At least not for the sites I go to.

alright, i ran a quick test with this little google gadget and here's what i got...First I put up many large applications so that i can see an obvious difference in the speeds of webpages. Than I took out my handy dandy stopwatch (don't trust that default timer google provides) and timed the pages. As far as I can tell, the difference in my firefox didn't change at all. Internet Explorer, however, improved DRASTICALLY. In fact, it's much faster than firefox now...loading images and everything. Firefox with and without the "web accelorator" took about 13 seconds to open the somewhat large site. (after cleaning up the cache, history, etc.) Internet Explorer finished the file in 6 seconds with the accelerator. Some in the end, i guess i conclude (at least for my computer), that this web accelerator is a beast with IE but isn't worth it if you plan on using firefox. At least for now...i'm sure with a few new upgrades, google's little application will become more efficient...hopefully...

another google application in beta mode! funny that no one really needs to make their web surfing a little faster, as there are fast internet speeds like broadband.maybe in my theory that its just a gimmick on the browser to log the users visited websites and things like that to make their search engine bigger and wider with more results on searches on unknown websites that are not listed. making the internet a smaller space with only a search box to narrow it down.

Google has stopped allowing downloads of its Web Accelerator software, just days after it began offering the product.
Google cited capacity as the reason for putting the brake on downloads of Accelerator, which is designed to speed the delivery of Web pages. A message on the site said the company has reached its "maximum capacity of users and (we) are actively working to increase the number of users we can support."

A Google representative denied on Wednesday that the removal of the tool was connected to the security fears. "It is a limited beta," he said, "and we reached the capacity of users."

The end of Google Web Accelerator? I hope not but I seriously doubt that they have reached thei maximium capacity of user support especially when their GMail email service has its inbox growing every second for every user! My point is that this is just an excuse to stop any more downloads and Google has just put it in a nicer way to hear but after all, it's still in beta testing stage so there's nothing more we can comment on it. What do you all think?

I tried to download this application from Google's website. It said it was down or not accepting anymore members. So instead, I went to download.com to download it. It installed perfectly, but I did not notice a huge difference in speed. It may be because I am using broadband, and by attemping to speed up broadband would be useless! After all it is recommended for dial up users. Also, it installs an icon that reports how much seconds/minutes have been saved in using Google Download Accelerator. I have used it for three days, and it is still at 0.00 second saved. I think it is not working.I found out today that the program has been suspended! Maybe that is exactly why!

I thought Google Web Accelerator was made for broadband. The reason it didn't work was probably because (if you look on the Google Web Accelerator homepage) they say that they have reached the maximum amount of users, so ven though you managed to download it, it wouldnt be supported by Google.

Google web accelerator? interesting? I wonder if it works and I wonder if it has spyware that tracks your web usage or not.... Because I hear that Google is trying to get to know other people's web usage for many odd reasons...??? That just might be people being paranoid?
