A (hopefully) Simple Dreamweaver Question

Recommended Posts

Hello all.

I've been using Dreamweaver for a couple of months now and I'm learning as I go. I'm pretty much totally new to making websites so I'm happy with how things are going at the moment.

I feel there is something super obvious that I can't work out how to do though.

This is my site. http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

I'd like to be able to have like a banner down one side so that I could have all of my links in there and possibly the adverts. The way it is just now means that I have to push the table and important stuff of the site further down the page when I'd actually like it all alongside my links.

I thought I'd cracked this when I done something like add vertical frame but whenever you then clicked on one of the links they would only open inside this small frame rather than over the whole page.

Does this make sense? If someone could point me out to a dreamweaver made ultra easy page that would be most helpful too. I'm quite bad for jumping straight into the deep end I think.

Cheers,
stevethedog

I'm thinking that you need a three column layout something like this one: http://forums.xisto.com

Fill the left and right sidebars with your links and have your main page content in the middle? You will need a gage for each link, or a Content Management system like snews http://www.snewscms.com/ or cutenews, perhaps. google that one.

that was really what i needed in dreamwever but i am having a problem of some tables in the sense that before the words i type in the table can be position, i must type till the whole colums are filled ,and if i dont do so then the worlds will be in middle when published and i can shift more than two times so i am wondering how i can overcome this problem because some times i need to make a very big gap without tables but if tables are present it wont work help me!

Its not dreamweaver its tables in general that make it more difficult in trying to something like your asking. It could be done, but you would see need a series of tables in fixed positions and thats just a pain, so like haslip mention go with a 2 or 3 column layout. I would go to this site has it has various bare bone templates in CSS that have 1-4 column layouts and then code from there.
