manuleka 0 Report post Posted September 4, 2012 After trying out *buntu 12.04 (U,Xu,Ku) then hopped on to the Mint wagon and tried out Mint Cinnamon, KDE, and Mate. I decided to make LinuxMint 13 Mate my main Linux OS simply because it's the best looking Distro (in my view) It's amazingly elegant like every other mint variant, BUT it has a simple feel to it... and best of all is the clarity of the fonts... i've had some issues with fonts on KDE and the main *buntu variants (U,Ku,Xu)... fonts gets blurry... initially when i first installed LinuxMint 13 KDE font seems fine but after running update and restart, font fell back to the same look as the other distros, blurry and not so easy on my eyes... maybe it's also to do with the colorings and themes (i have tested a few themes and other settings as well)I decided to try out Mate, knowing that it is based on Gnome 2 i didn't expect much but to my surprise it is an amazing elegant laid out OS... the font is just perfect, no need for tweaking other than adding some applicationsOne thing i love about Mint is how it includes a whole bunch of standard applications (in the *buntu majors you have to add these manually) which is quite suitable for a standard user like myself who doesn't like spending time searching for howto install this and that (or going through repository for standard, simple, and common application that is usually used by most users). So i would recommend you all to try out LinuxMint 13 Mate
manuleka 0 Report post Posted September 5, 2012 Only one problem, or more like a minor feature but can be added manually... the neat simple window effects that usually comes already enabled or easily enabled on other DE - e.g. Window effects like wobbly, Cube Desktop Effects which are of course to do with Compiz, but at the moment Compiz seem to be not fully compatible with MATE yet... but they are working on it..
