Show News Rebecca Black

Recommended Posts

The last three months Rebecca Black had a video hit on Youtube. The video got 165 million views. The video contains a song by Rebecca Black. In the song she describes the joy she experiences when it is Friday. The song and the video are generally considered to be of a very low quality. The voice and the singing are heavily autotuned. The video is made by a company. The company asks about $ 4,000.00 for the production of 1 video. The parents of young people pay this money so their child can make a video that looks a little bit like a professional made video clip of a professional artist. The videos are made with class mates and friends and school mates of the person who pays for the video production. This is explained to make it understandable that the company who produces the video doesn't necessarily uses high creativity and artistic standards for the production of the videos, the writing and composing of the songs and the choise of the singers.

The videos have a decent technical quality.

The video got a lot of attention. Rebecca Black is now famous in a way for being what is considered to be the singer of the worst song ever and the person performing and singing in what is seen like the worst video ever made. Rebecca Black has been invited for several talk shows in the United States of America. A few days ago a video of the famous female singer Katy Perry is released. Rebecca Black has a role in this video clip.

Today Rebecca Black released a new video. It seems this video is made by another video production company.

A few days ago the representatives of Rebecca Black made copyrights claims against the video Friday. The video was uploaded on the video channel of the video production company. The video is taken down by Youtube. The rumour is that there are money issues between Rebecca Black and the video production company. It is said that the company that produced the video had put the video in the rental video area of Youtube. It costed $ 2.99 to watch the video. It seems the revenues of this move weren't shared with Rebecca Black.

Rights

Copy rights and creator rights

Rights to a song depend heavily on the agreements that are made. In a lot of cases the record company owns the copy rights of the records the company produces. The composer of the music of the song and the writer of the lyrics of the song can own the rights to their part of the production. The musicians can be hired to just produce the music in the studio without any right regarding the song and the record.

Amateurs produce videos on Youtube. It depends what the rules, Youtube uses, if they lose their rights to their video production. It is possible that the creator of the video is the owner of the copy rights. With copy rights is here ment the right to make a copy of a work in order to show the work to the public. In this post the work is a video.

The information was, that the production of a video at Ark Music Factory costs $ 2,000.00. Parents of people of the age of probably around 15 and 16 years pay this amount of money to let this company produce a video with the person singing. The video company offers two songs. The singer can chose the song. The video company produces the video. The special thing is that the video is released on the channel of the music company. In most cases people make a video and upload the video on their own channel. Eventual earned revenues are earned by the owner of the Youtube channel. The revenues of a video can range from $ 0.01 to $ 2.50 for each 1,000 views.

There is no information available about the way the money, that is earned by the Friday video is split between the video recording company and the singer and her parents.

The website with the link in the start post announces, that the mother of Rebecca Black paid $ 2,000.00 for the production of the video. She paid an extra $ 2,000.00 for the master of the video. It seems that this means that the mother of Rebecca Black bougth all the rights belonging to the video. It seems the mother of Rebecca Black is now the owner of the master of the video. The master of the video is probably the sort of record material that holds the original footage.

Being this the case the mother of Rebecca Black and her representatives are able to decide what happens with the video on Youtube. They filed a complaint against the record company. This probably indicates that the representatives stated, that the record company hosted the video on their Youtube channel without being the owner of the copy rights of the video and without the permission of the owner of the copy rights.

Regarding the possible high revenues of the video with its 165 million views before the video was taken off Youtube the extra payment of $ 2,000.00 might turn out to be a very valueable investment of the mother of Rebecca Black.

The article states, that other videos of Ark Music Factory got a few thousand views. This is not completely true. Other videos of young singers posted on the channel of Ark Music Factory got several million views. The most viewed video on their channel at the moment has got 10 million views.

The mother of Rebecca Black decided to buy the copy rights and the owner rights of the video in spite of the in a way low amount of views other videos had at the time the agreement was made.

It seems this action has made sure the mother of Rebecca Black has full power and full decision rights about what happens with the video of her daughter. On a personal note a bit of appreciation of the decision of mrs. Kelly, the mother of Rebecca Black, can be expressed here.

From an article online of the New York Times:

First, she says, while she knew the video would go online, she knew other young performers who had worked with Ark, and their views reached a few thousand, if that. It never crossed her mind that millions of people would pay any attention to her daughter. She did take some precautions ââ¬â paying an additional $2,000 so that Rebecca, and not Ark, owned the master of her video (bringing the total cost to $4,000, twice what has been widely reported; Kelly says she paid it in installments, because she did not have it all at once, but adds that it was a worthwhile investment, similar to what one would pay for a month of sleepaway camp or private school.)

Friday

Song by Rebecca Black

Lyrics

(Yeah, Ah-Ah-Ah-Ah-Ah-Ark)

Oo-ooh-ooh, hoo yeah, yeah

Yeah, yeah

Yeah-ah-ah

Yeah-ah-ah

Yeah-ah-ah

Yeah-ah-ah

Yeah, yeah, yeah

Seven a.m., waking up in the morning

Gotta be fresh, gotta go downstairs

Gotta have my bowl, gotta have cereal

Seein' everything, the time is goin'

Tickin' on and on, everybody's rushin'

Gotta get down to the bus stop

Gotta catch my bus, I see my friends (My friends)

Kickin' in the front seat

Sittin' in the back seat

Gotta make my mind up

Which seat can I take?

It's Friday, Friday

Gotta get down on Friday

Everybody's lookin' forward to the weekend, weekend

Friday, Friday

Gettin' down on Friday

Everybody's lookin' forward to the weekend

Partyin', partyin' (Yeah)

Partyin', partyin' (Yeah)

Fun, fun, fun, fun

Lookin' forward to the weekend

7:45, we're drivin' on the highway

Cruisin' so fast, I want time to fly

Fun, fun, think about fun

You know what it is

I got this, you got this

My friend is by my right, ay

I got this, you got this

Now you know it

Kickin' in the front seat

Sittin' in the back seat

Gotta make my mind up

Which seat can I take?

It's Friday, Friday

Gotta get down on Friday

Everybody's lookin' forward to the weekend, weekend

Friday, Friday

Gettin' down on Friday

Everybody's lookin' forward to the weekend

Partyin', partyin' (Yeah)

Partyin', partyin' (Yeah)

Fun, fun, fun, fun

Lookin' forward to the weekend

Yesterday was Thursday, Thursday

Today i-is Friday, Friday (Partyin')

We-we-we so excited

We gonna have a ball today

Tomorrow is Saturday

And Sunday comes after ... wards

I don't want this weekend to end

R-B, Rebecca Black

So chillin' in the front seat (In the front seat)

In the back seat (In the back seat)

I'm drivin', cruisin' (Yeah, yeah)

Fast lanes, switchin' lanes

Wit' a car up on my side (Woo!)

(C'mon) Passin' by is a school bus in front of me

Makes tick tock, tick tock, wanna scream

Check my time, it's Friday, it's a weekend

Review

Review of the video and the song and the production

The information on several websites about the song 'Friday' by Rebecca Black is interesting. The song gives the impression that the singer has to decide where to sit. Options are a front seat and a back seat. Before the decision occurs the lyrics state that the person who is involved in the action is standing at the bus stop. The fact, that a decision arises and the mention of the bus stop indicate a school bus. The age of the singer agrees with this notion.

The information online assures this notion. The article says that the production company didn't have enough money to hire a school bus to make the video according to the lyrics. The convertible owned by the father of Rebecca Black or step father is used.

This makes sense since the video production is a low budget production. The friends of Rebecca Black figure in the video. Some of the parts like the driving along the road are made with a blue screen.

The change from the school bus, like the lyrics imply into a convertible, make the video and the song even more ridiculous.

Ridiculous and silly parts

Apart from the obvious school bus that is missing some other ridiculous elements are present in the video. The start of the song seems a copy of the song Tik Tok by Kesha.

Kesha: 'Wake up in the morning'

Rebecca Black: 'Seven a.m., waking up in the morning'

The rest of the lyrics hold some elements, that can be considered to be ridiculous. The main part is created by the emphasis that is put on usual activities that are made into huge important things with like world wide meanings.

Another ridiculous element that is mentioned online is that a boy of about 14 years old is supposed to drive a car. The missing of seat belts adds to this picture.

The appearance of the adult singer who seems to chase the school bus and who seems to know the name of the school girl who is in the school bus while the adult is driving behind the school bus adds a weird and creepy compnent to the video and the song.

The adult singer seems to be put in the song with the reason and the thought, that a song aint a song until some rap occurs. This seems to be a copy of an element from the song of Justin Bieber: 'Baby'. Probably other artists have clips with featuring rapper singers too.

Some other parts of the content of the lyrics and the video are considered to be silly and ridiculous too.

Review. Part 2.

Ark Music Factory

Ark Music Factory offers to produce a video of a song. The price is $ 2,000.00. For $ 4,000.00 the rights and ownership of the video and the song and the masters of the video and the song are sold too.

It seems Ark Music Factory is not a regular professional record company. A sort of an audition is needed.

Strange things are that the singer pays for the production of the video. And it is strange that the video is shown on the Youtube website of Ark Music Factory. The song is presented by Ark Music Factory. The video is a low budget production.

Positive points are that an aspiring singer gets the opportunity to make a more or less professional looking video clip. The video clip gets shown on a channel with loads of views.

A negative point is somewhat the amateuristic way the video is produced.

The Friday video

It seems Rebecca Black skipped the audition part. The video and the song contain some strange elements. The singing voice is very much autotuned. An autotune is a computer program that changes the level a song is sung. An autotune can turn a song offtune into intune in a digital way.

Review Part 3

You know what it is

I got this, you got this

We-we-we so excited

We so excited

The song states that some person know something. The song doesn't explain what the persons know.

Some parts of the song are no complete sentences. According to the English grammar and the usual way the language is used the verb is missing.

Analysis

This song has some interesting elements attached to it. The first thing that is different from other songs and videos with a girl singing on Youtube is the business concept of the company that produced the song and the video. The company is in a gap between the house made videos of lots of people and the professional made and expensive produced video clips of the record companies. The price of $ 2,000.00 for a song and a video clip is not very high compared to the costs of video clips of pop artists. The costs of clips produced in a studio can run from $ 10,000 till $ 100,000 or more probably.

If the company pays $ 500 for the production the revenues are $ 1,500 for 1 song and 1 video. This means the income of the owners of the company is not very high. The company doesn't produce many videos.

The advantage is that a person gets an original new written and composed song for a relative low price. The aspiring singer gets a video produced by other people. This gives the person some experience with a production team. It is imaginable that people would have a hard time to find a song writer and a music composer to write and compose an original new song for them.

The company produces a video with a technical sufficient quality. The quality is better compared to the quality of loads of homemade cam recorded videos on Youtube.

The most interesting part has to do with the rights. The mother of Rebecca Black has paid an extra $ 2,000 to buy the rights and the master of the song and the video. It is possible that the rights of the writer and the composer are sold too.

The ownership of these rights gives the mother of Rebecca Black the opportunity to decide what happens with the video on Youtube. This means the mother of Rebecca Black controls the activities concerning this video.

There is not much information about the income earned by the partnership program of Youtube. Estimations can range from $ 1,650 till $ 495,000. It seems the song was sold on iTunes and through Amazone too. And it seems a part of the song is sold as a ringtone.

There is not much information about the distribution and the division of the income generated by the song. The owner of the company declared in an interview the company gets and keeps the revenues of the videos.

Another interesting element is the position of the song. The song can be seen like a further step into the simplification of pop music. The song can be seen like a step into a new erea too. An interesting parts of the song are that the song relates to the life of young people. The same can be seen with a singer like Justin Bieber.

The song can be seen like being a part of the music scene where Disney operates. This music approach seems to react against the rude words and language and the gangster attitude of rap music and hiphop.

There is a whole bunch of young people who prefer appropiate music about things of the life of young people like themselves whit music that is not ment to shock people.

Conclusion

It is possible the song 'Friday' is the start of a new stream of uncomplicated songs about the happy things in life.

Changes of the information

Today Rebecca Black released a new video. It seems this video is made by another video production company.

The video that was presented like a new video and a cover sung by Rebecca Black seems to be a song of another girl singer.

The reupload of the song 'Friday' is removed. This indicates that the video was not uploaded by Rebecca Black or with the approval of the mother of Rebecca Black.
