It's been revealed that many Chinese prisoners are being forced into online "hard labor" in titles such as World of Warcraft, because it's more profitable than manual labor.

This is another reason why I hate games like WoW. They don't have any form of cap on the amount that can be earned by a single IP or account. There is no cap on the amounts that can be traded. There is no cap on daily experience. Basically it results in who ever spends the most amount of time online has the advantages that other players don't. Games such as WoW and Second Life have resulted in massive addictions across the world, and although they probably would have taken some of these addictions out on other games there is a large sector of people who don't actually play games and wouldn't be addicted to these types of things if they didn't come about. I remember when I first discovered the internet, back in the early 90's and immediately I was hooked on it. Luckily for me these types of online interactions didn't exist and I was limited to chatrooms. Anyway eventually the addiction died off and I branched out in to different areas with a certain amount of self control. Since the internet has become more popular other people are going through this massive addiction to online socialising but with the means available today it makes it so much more difficult to pace yourself and assert some self control. Some prime examples of this are obviously games like WoW and Guild Wars, also sites like facebook, tweeter and so on. People become so hooked on these sites that it seems to take up most of their spare time not leaving them much time for any other activities. But anyway, to get back on topic, the Chinese government being one of the most powerful entities on the planet are rife with corruption and obsessed with exploiting their own people to gather the wealth of the rest of the world. They do try to hold on to their countries rich traditions and values, that much I respect and admire (however their most recent censoring of films that involve or include time travel because to travel back in time is giving a person the ability the chance to change their countries tradiional values is insane), however the levels of corruption through all tiers of the government is enough to make a person weep. From the police right up to Hu Jintao, Paramount Leader of the People's Republic of China. I'm not saying that here in the West our own governments are not corrupted, but at least we are less obvious about it and our people do not live in fear every single day in case they say something that will land them in prison playing games, mining until your fingers bleed and shaping toothpicks all day every day. You will even land yourself in prison for having more than two children as well. If you have a third then obviously they aren't murderers and kill the child, but you can be guaranteed the parents will be punished severely.
