How do I set up a USB HUB with 4 external drives?Connecting Multiple Hard Drive - Best Transfer Speeds?

Have Dynex USB HUB with 2 - 100 g portable drives and 2 - 4 meg thumb drives. Hub is powered from an ac to dc block.

If hub is connected before boot, desktop will not boot. If disconnected, PC boots fine.

Is there a way / what is the way to add the hub and drives to boot process, so I don't have to unplug it before booting.
