can use hard disk as external?Data Transfer Between Laptop And Desktop

I have sell my PC. But the hard disk is still with me and I m having some important data in that. Can anyone tel me can I attach my hard disk with my laptop externally.Without attaching to the desk top as I don't have it. Please any one guide me.
