Windows Xp, How To Re-enable Show All Possible Color

Few days before, I have used the power toys to rebuild my system icons.After that, all icons showed on the screen only with 256 color.Prior Windows XP, Windows 2000 have an option on the display applet thatlet me show all possible colors.Hmm..., Is there any way to restore the ability ?Thanks,P.S. If I switched to another resolution. It is fine. But once back, it lower the color to 256.

I once had this problem, but it happened for different reasons. Here's how I got around it...

 

On your desktop, right-click and choose Properties. Go to the Settings tab. Change your Screen resolution to the lowest resolution it can get (it's 800 by 600 pixels for me, but it might be 640 by 480 pixels for you). And then change your Color quality to the lowest quality it can get as well (16 bit on my computer, but it could be 256 colors on yours). Then click OK to apply these changes and restart your computer. After restarting, set the screen resolution and the color quality to their original values. Things should get back to normal.

 

To be honest, I remember reading that there was an easier way to do this, but I can't remember what it is or where I found it. But at least this method worked for me, and will hopefully work for you, too Good luck.

Also, make sure that you installed graphics drivers that support 32-bit colour.xboxrulz

Also verify that the screen resolution that you are trying to get 32-bit colour on actually supports 32-bit colour. Some screen resolutions can only display 256 colours, while older monitors (from Windows 95/98) can sometimes only display 16 colours at the lowest resolution.

Before I use that tool. My desktop could display all colors normally.Because on some open dialog, such as select icons.It is fine without any issues.And thanks for all suggestions and I wil try that tomorow.

I have tried all methods but it still not back to the full color mode.When I switched it to lower resolution and restart my computer.And then changed it back to orginal resolution.The desktop still use 256 color only.

Hi, I finally get all color back to the desktop by justcreating a new user account.After this, All color are displayed without any issues.It seems to be my userprofile have been corrupted.Thanks all, ---Magiccode9

I have just formated my pc..How can I get back the screen resolution that enable viewing images by picassa? my scrren resolution for now is 640 by 480..Can I upgrade ths resolution to 800 by 600 with 16 bits? how?
