mtnbluet 0 Report post Posted May 28, 2007 the Freedom of Information Act bill???In the US Senate some anonymous senator put a hold on this important bill. In this important time when things are being added to bills to take away or to try to take away our freedoms it is crucial to know who is doing what. That is, it is crucial to hold our congressmen accountable to the people for how they vote and what actions they take. Hence, this bill needs to Move!!!So what can we do about it?Well this Shine a Spotlight on the Senate site has the names and phone numbers of all 46 senators. Yes, it is Memorial Day weekend and so it is important to make calls (before or on June 4th) to one's senators and ask them this simple question: Did you place a secret hold on Senate Bill 849, the Open Government Act?รขThen, you are to send a comment to the Spotlight site until all the 46 slots in the table are filled and voila we will know the answer so pressure can be put upon that supposedly secret individual.So....let the power of the Net begin... and I will keep you tuned in to the results as best I can. Dalv87 0 Report post Posted May 28, 2007 I saw that post on reddit yesterday. It's a good idea, but the senator who did it won't answer, they probably don't even answer their own phones, the people who said they'd call will just get some person in the office who says "thanks for calling so-and-so's office, he's in a meeting right now, would you like me to call you back when I have information available for you?" and then never get a call back, or else they'll get some automated message. I don't even see how they know it was a Democrat, Leahy might have just been guessing (if it's secret how can they really know the party affiliation :? ).I agree the bill should be passed though, eventually it probably will. Does anyone know if the senator will have to reveal his identity if he lets it go? If he does, he/she might never do it, but it would kind of suck to never know who did it. toby 0 Report post Posted May 28, 2007 We (UK) have it, and it just seems to be wasting time and money doing all those requests. But yeah, they always have crap to hide.
