Disable Crash Recovery Restore Session Option On Firefox 2

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Guys frequently using Firefox 2 for browsing may notice one session recovery screen for restoring session on your browser after improper exit of the Firefox Browser or immediate shutdown while using Firefox!

Firefox 2 will give an option to restore your browser session to previous state!

So you may seen this screen before! ;)

Its one advantage of using Firefox 2!

You can even go to your Gmail inbox without signing in after restoring the session!

But imagine, if 2 or more users are using the same system and while the 1st user is going through his Gmail!

Suddenly because of the power failure, his system got restarted!

But unfortunately the 2nd user is using the same system and he is opening the browser!

He will get the option to restore the cookies!

If he click YES, the browser will restore to previous session and he can read the 1st users Gmail without signing in!!

So, how we can disable this restore option in Firefox 2??

Its soo simple friends!!

Open Firefox

Type: "about:config" in address bar ( withot quotes ;) )

Search for "browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash" in the list

double click on that field and set that to "false"

So, winding up now!!

Will be back with more Tips!! ;)

How do I ALWAYS have Firefox restore previous session WITHOUT the "Restore Previous Session Prompt" upon Startup?

Disable Crash Recovery Restore Session Option On Firefox 2

I like the "restoring previous session" feature of Firefox 3 but I don't like how it always prompts me upon startup. Is there anyway I can disable the prompt upon start up and automatically set up firefox to always restore the session? Thanks,

Doan

For you DoanDisable Crash Recovery Restore Session Option On Firefox 2

Always restore sessions on start

By default this feature is off, but can be turned on from the Options/PreferencesMenu. In the Main panel, under Startup set "When Firefox starts" to"Show my windows and tabs from last time". This will have FirefoxRestore your tabs and form data to their state when Firefox closed (theRelated preference is browser.Startup.Page).

If you want Firefox to restore multiple windows you need toClose Firefox via "File -> Exit" ("Firefox -> Quit Firefox" onMac OS). Closing the windows one at a time will cause Firefox to onlyRestore the last window that was closed.

Restore last session..Disable Crash Recovery Restore Session Option On Firefox 2

FF crashed, got a new update and installed it and asked if wanted to restore.. I thought I clicked Yes but the result looked more like I've clicked No >. <"

Is there any chance that I could get that session back?

Thanks in advance!-Michel Merx.(A dutch fella)

My question is why would you want to disable such a feature for? Granted that scenario might happen but it is very unlikely especially the home user. Granted this might be useful for public system like schools or libraries but I would think the loss of critical data would outweigh the need to disable such a feature.

Another reason would be if you are a user that is online a lot and consistently has a lot of windows open. I don't want them all to reopen when I crash or the power goes out. (it goes out a lot here) I ESPECIALLY don't want them to open again if I crashed, as it was likely a browser plugin that caused it.

Thank you so much for this, I really appreciate it. This has been driving me crazy!

Another reason to disable restoreDisable Crash Recovery Restore Session Option On Firefox 2

It is also a good idea to disable this just in case you come across an infected web page.  This happened to me and is why I searched for this solution.

If I see something trying to install without permission I go for the PC reset button.  This is usually after my AV says it blocked an attempt to infect with a Trojan or other malware.  If the session restore is not disabled, then when Firefox is opened again it reopens the page/site that contained the infection.
