tansqrx 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2007 I have tried three times to get Fedora Core 6 to install but I keep getting the same error message: “there was an error running your transaction, for the following reason(s): file conflicts”. I am using all of the default settings except changing the time zone and basically installing all packages. The error always happens near the end of the fifth disk. I have run sha hash checking on all media and everything checks out. Has anyone had this problem or a possible solution?
iGuest 3 Report post Posted February 17, 2007 It seems that not all packages can be installed due to "file(s) conflict", you really need to know which file(s) are actually conflicting and insure you don't install those package(s) together. Also installing all packages is not a good idea, you really only want to install what you will use, no point having everything if you're only going to use a small amount of the packages, it'd also make updating take much longer than needs be and introduces a lot of security risks that may not be apparent to you if you don't use the package that causes problems.I usually work the other way, install the most minimal and then install what packages I need afterwards, sometimes only installing on a needs basis. If you're not familiar with Fedora, then install the most standard desktop settings. That way you'll be able to install additional packages from the CD using GUI tools.Cheers,MC
tansqrx 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2007 I have to admit that I am a Windows users and I only use Linux when I absolutely have to. My problems in the past have been trying to get something running only to find out that a library was not installed. Of course this leads to hours of trying to find the files and usually just giving up. I have a bad habit of just throwing everything on from the beginning for this reason. My next question is how do I find out which files are in conflict? iGuest 3 Report post Posted February 17, 2007 From reading up on this problem, it seems totem-xine has a problem and audacity with audacity-nonfree (choose 1 or the other, not both).Other than that, unless I install FC6 (still running FC5), then I can't provide any more information on this problem. As for installing needed libraries that are missing, if you've got a fast internet connection it is quite easy to do, or you could grab them off the CD, I just prefer the internet because you'd be getting the most uptodate version.Cheers,MC
tansqrx 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2007 It looks like I got it to work. I did not install all of the extra multimedia programs but I did install all the additional libraries that I could get a hold of.This is a complete newbie question but where is the best place to download such libraries? After running for a few minutes the Red Hat update kicked in and got most of the updates. The second question of the ages; is there an easy way to install them? I will do some more work in the coming days so I will give details then.
