Interesting... The only thing I need is more pop ups on my computer to slow it down. I really don't know why I would want to go into "reg-edit" just to add this but I guess some companies need to tell there workers things about the computer when they log on. Is there a way to make it so this message only appears once a day or week so it doesn't appear every time you log on? If so that would be cool if you added it to your post. Thanks :)

This should not be a pop-up. What this is does is replace some standard text to all Windows machines. Windows currently displays the copy-right as you boot up. Changing this registry key simply changes the message displayed on boot-up. While it has almost no danger of harming your computer (unless you have some weird third party software that relies on it) it is illegal. It may affect whether or not Windows Genuine Advantage views your computer as legit or not, but I doubt it. Even so, it is smart to maintain a registry backup, especially before making any changes.~Viz

I personally wouldn't do anything to that specific registry value since you never know what it could do, sure it could change the welcome text or whatever but what if some programs or services rely on that registry entry to be the default.I also wouldn't have any use for it but some other people might, it could also be used in public places too, other than all this it's a great tip for people that need this sort of thing-HellFire

Most people don't need that unless they are on a network. I do this at my house becasue i have a lot of computers and host most of our data on our own dedicated server that is never touched. This can also be done with TUNEUP 2006. Also, always be carefull on how you edit the registry or it could be FATAL.

Don't worry, I'm always careful and smart when it comes to computers. Especially with the registery. (secretly remembers the blue screen of death HE triggered on his 35th comp . . . just ten minutes ago . . . nah, j/k people :))

My WinXP's copied from a VLK anyway (stupid older brother xD), so changing some dumb old copyright in the registry won't do much to hurt me.

And, for the record, I don't even touch the registery unless I need to.
