Web Server Uplink Speed Is Very Slow

Recommended Posts

I am running apache web server behind NetGear router. I can access all my documents with sufficient speed from all computers which are behind same router. [From all computers that are on my intranet]. However, same server serves these documents very slow[3/4 KBps]when I try to access it from somewhere outside. If I remove the router and plug in cable modem directly to my server, it has no problem. Could somebody please help me in this regard?-Aj

How many computers are connected to your intranet? How many are running at the same time? The reason it is so slow is because the connection has to evenly distribute internet speed across it's network so the more computers the you have the slower the connection will be, You can solve this by getting a T1 line which will put the speeds up at least dial up if you have more then say 5 and maybe at broadband speed with 3-4. Or disconnect computers that are not being used and then it comes time to used them reconnect them.Although this is a noob suggestion hopefully a more expert answer could be giving.

I have only 3 computers and one of them is hosting the server. I tried having only one of them up[the one which runs the server] and disconnecting others but didn't help. However, if I take router out and hook cable modem directly into server, I can get the same speed from any other machine[this includes the ones which are behind the same router, as well as someone who is accessing it from some other city]. I guess something is to do with router setting. I went through mannual but could not find anything. Do I need to use port other than 80/8080? Any help would be really appreciated.

I have the same problemWeb Server Uplink Speed Is Very Slow

Hello, I have the same problem, I am trying to host this site in my own server but loading times 4 times longer than with a cheap shared hosting. Uplink connection is good and the network is not overloaded.

Me tooWeb Server Uplink Speed Is Very Slow

I am having this problem as well. My webserver worked fine connected directly to my modem, but now that it's using the Netgear router with port forwarding, it is EXTREMELY slow (I'm talking 15s to download a 300k file from that server using a remote machine).
