iGuest 3 Report post Posted July 15, 2006 Google crawlers sometimes uses ODP to get the description of your webpages. Unfortunately ODPs do not update/refresh contents as frequently as most of us would like it to have. Now Google has introduced a new META Tag to direct search engine crawlers not to use information available in the ODP. This is the META Tag: <META NAME="ROBOTS" CONTENT="NOODP"> To specifically direct GoogleBOT, you need to use : <META NAME="GOOGLEBOT" CONTENT="NOODP"> See : Inside Google Sitemaps Does not it indicate that Google is showing less trust for ODPs ? Arbitrary 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2006 Hmm...but this mostly applies to those of us who actually are listed in the ODP, right? The rest of the people just automatically get their site summary from a different source...I suppose its a good thing that Google is allowing webmasters to chose between using ODPs as their site description or otherwise; at least that means sites can have accurate descriptions.
