manbataro 0 Report post Posted May 15, 2006 (edited) Is the accelarator of PHP "EAccelerator."? Notice from szupie: Not a tutorial -- Moved to [Programming > Scripting > PHP] Edited May 16, 2006 by szupie (see edit history)
szupie 0 Report post Posted May 16, 2006 Short question --> Short answer: eAccelerator is a free open-source PHP accelerator, optimizer, encoder and dynamic content cache. That was from the eAccelerator site. So yes, it does accelerate your PHP processor (kinda redundant phrase there... "PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor processor"...).
vizskywalker 0 Report post Posted May 16, 2006 kinda redundant phrase there... "PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor processor"...It's called a recursive acronym, and the open source community loves them. Take these for example:GNU - Gnu's Not UnixPINE - Pine Is Not ElmThere are tons of other ones, such as my personal favorite: MS - MS Sucks~Viz
szupie 0 Report post Posted May 16, 2006 Oh, I actually meant that the "preprocessor processor" part was redundant...Where do recursive acronyms come from anyway? I mean, it's really easy to create one (pick a letter, add a few words after it, then use the first letters of every word as the first word). Do they originally have a different meaning? I know PHP originally stood for "Personal HomePage".
vizskywalker 0 Report post Posted May 16, 2006 Some do have other meanings, some don't. PINE came because it is the same type of program as ELM so people were confusing it, so they chose is not Elm to remind people, and the P because it was another tree. GNU came because people were confusing it with Unix I think. Not sure if it had another menaing first. I don't think Pine did. Mostly they just seem to be an interesting marketing trick.~Viz
