nightfox1405241487 0 Report post Posted December 28, 2005 I'm the cheap sort of folk and I don't have an extra $300 laying around for a stupid license to IPB so I got a free one from Invision Free. They have this section in the amin panel about using your own domain and having it point to 67.15.4.42. They say it can be done with subdomains, so I created a subdomain, "forums.mysite.cjb.net" but I don't see anything in cPanel regarding giving a subdomain an IP address.I know it is possible, but I'm not sure how. Thanks for any information that can be provided![N]F
xboxrulz1405241485 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2005 set your subdomain to redirect over to the invisionfree board, it's that simple.xboxrulz
PureHeart 0 Report post Posted December 30, 2005 I think you can use an free DNS server. Then point the IP to 67.15.4.42 You may want to try changeip.com . They have many cool sub-domain name to choose from. Check it, you'll like it.Why IPB, how about other free forum out there. How about the popular phpBB. It's not very powerful, but It's free. With Invision Free, they put ads on your forum, that's not good at all, right?
xboxrulz1405241485 0 Report post Posted December 30, 2005 yup, IPB is just another forum software gone paid. Some good forums software include; Quicksilver Forums (I endorse this product), phpBB, XMB, K4BB, iKonBoard, SMF, EKINBoard, VUBB, MyBB.It's better to install forums on your own server since you have more control.xboxrulz
nightfox1405241487 0 Report post Posted December 31, 2005 I think I might just load on a copy of XMB... it's my favorite mostly because it is more secure than phpBB will ever be.[N]F
