Jguy101 0 Report post Posted November 17, 2005 I'm really interested in skinning Windows XP, but all I've found so far require software to use them, and I don't want to slow down my PC. So, does anyone know of sites where I can download .Theme files for XP?

vdhieu84 0 Report post Posted November 19, 2005 There are tons of programs out there that let you skinning your Windows look-and-feel. Before, I used ThemeXP at http://www.themexp.org/ . What you meant by "skinning", in their term, is visual style . However, to be able to install new visual style, you need a piece of software called Style XP form TGT Soft. Sounds a little bit comlplicated, but it's really easy to install. The second software you might want to look at (I'm using this right now) is mentioned by emiles-site above. It is WindowBlinds from http://www.wincustomize.com/ . They also have tons of very nice skin. The only down side of WindowBlinds (compare to Style XP) is you have to keep WindowBlinds process running even though it doesn't use much resource, while Style XP, once appied to your computer, that's your default skin, and you can turn off Style XP. I prefered WindowBlinds, but it's your choice, both of them are pretty much equal
Jguy101 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2005 No, nononono.................I mean a place where I can find .Theme files, so I don't need software. That tends to slow things down a bit...and I've also heard that when you log in, it's regular Windows, and then a couple seconds later, everything gets freaky and changed to the skin (with a skinning program). .Theme files are what Windows uses. xboxrulz1405241485 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2005 none, u can't skin Windows without extra software. That's why it sucks. KDE on the other hand is skinnable without extra software.xboxrulz
Jguy101 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2005 Actually, I think you can, because Windows can use different themes. You can actually browse for .Theme files. But I don't know where you can get them...

CrowN1405241516 0 Report post Posted December 25, 2005 You need something like thishttp://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/"It allows you to use any 3rd party msstyle theme on Windows XP/SP1/SP2 or Windows Server 2003 (with Themes enabled) by patching the uxtheme.dll (dynamic link library)"After install, you just need to copy some theme to Windows->Resource->Themesdoubleclick on it, and your new theme will be applied. emiles-site 0 Report post Posted April 1, 2006 Actually, I think you can, because Windows can use different themes. You can actually browse for .Theme files. But I don't know where you can get them... You are wrong, and right Theme-files have data in them, where the .MSSTYLE file can be found on your HD. For example, i have a Windows Vista (slate black) theme on my computer, and i don't use any external software. But what i use, is StyleXP. That program doesn't slow up your pc, it doesn't work like WindowsBlinds (other engine), but what it does, is switching skins (.theme, .msstyle) I think you didn't found .theme-skins because u googled for ".theme". You'd google for "download .msstyle skin" Hope this helps! ~Emile
