Restore Windows File And Folder Protection

Recommended Posts

Restore Windows File And Folder Protection

Windows XP offers many new and more effective features to protect your system. For example, Windows hides files and folders stored on Windows, Program files and system directory to protect them from being changed or deleted.

When you want to open system folders for first time, windows displays below screen

These Files Are Hidden

This folder contains files that keep your system working properly. You should not modify its contents

Show the contents of this folder

If you click on “Show the contents of this folder” in left panel under System Tasks, you will view contents of folder or drive.

BUT

You can remove this feature forever by clicking on “Show the contents of this folder”.

To enable this feature again, you should change your registry entries.

1- Click Start > Run > and type “regedit” to run Windows Registry Editor (without quotes).

2- Find following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ Explorer\

3- In right panel there are four DWORD values, for instance, shell:SystemDriveRootFolder.

4- double click on DWORD and give value of 1 to enable this feature

5- Close Windows Registry Editor and restart your computer.
