Bmw Valvetronic. how does it work?

Recommended Posts

I've been reading up on bmws new 545i it uses a new variable valve lift system called valvetroinc, somehow it allows bmw to avoid the use of throttle bodies all together, this along with their variable length intake runners and vanos make the new engine very inruiging, it must have a very flat torque curve. but I am still uncertain about how the valvetronic system works, I am already aware how cam-switchover vvl systems like hondas vtec and toyotas vvtli work, but this is completly different. does anyone have any good info on how this system works?
