I Feel Sick! Yahoo to host the wikimedia foundation

Recommended Posts

Yahoo(scum of the earth) have offered hosting to the Wikimedia Foundation(greatest people ever on the earth).

I dunno if any of you remember, but Wikimedia were in talks with Google, after MSN announced that Encarta would be available within thier Search. It was all looking good, I thought that Google was going to ally with the Wikimedia Foundation and live happily ever after, etc etc.

Then, out of the blue, Yahoo sees whats going on and immediatly offers to host the Wikimedia Foundation. First they'll host them, then they'll put ads on, or links back to Yahoo, and they'll start ahving a specialised "wiki" search on there homepage. I can sense that Yahoo are going to ruin it all...

Yahoo is just one of those things that turns all it touches into scum. It's like the story of King Midas, only in reverse. My main problem with Yahoo is all of the ads....they bother me terribly. When I search Google every thing is aesthetic in a minimalist way; it's very easy on the eyes. Yahoo just has too much going on on its pages. For crying out loud all I want to do is look up something, not look at the latest movies or diagnose a health problem, or what have you! Now, to be perfectly honest, I'm not very familiar with wikimedia. (Does it have anything to do with Wikipedia? *Is an unabashed Noob*) but if it tries to do anything with Yahoo, its outlooks don't look very good to me.

Scum of the earth!?!?!?!?!?!?! Then why is yahoo the BEST search engine on the internet!?! Yahoo has a LOT of material that they are hosting, so you must remember that their ads are for the companies that support them. They got to earn money some way or another. Google, if they try to expand so that they can compete with yahoo, will end up with ads. If yahoo's offer won wikimedia, then they deserve it. I personally hate google. I've had a bad history with them. Plu whenever I've created a website in the past, my page will appear on yahoo before it does on google, and I'll submit my page to BOTH search engines. Also google doesn't delete ANYTHING! They save all of their users old e-mails, and they keeps searchs that your IP address has done in the past. Did you all miss that huge thread on "The bad side of google" And yes, there is a lot of going on on the front page, but when you actually use the search engine, there are no ads on your search results pages. The only thing on there is in a shaded box that tells you "amazon can give you further information" and sometimes that's the better way to find out more about what you wanted to know. Wow, I wonder if my explanation made any sense at all. It does to me, but I also know what I am talking about and I'm afraid someone's going to read it and go . . . huh!?! :P Oh well, if it doesn't make sense the first time then I guess try and read it again. Switch to yahoo!

Interesting topic I can see but “flaming” is a thing of the past. Stick to the subject and leave the personal feelings at a minimal. This forum lives on knowledge not what a person belive.

saxsux, try to look at this as Yahoo trying to do something good. You might not prefer Yahoo as your search engine, which is your choice, but allow the company to grow and change. There are plenty of people who use dogpile.com or other search engines. It is all a matter of getting the most information possible, right?Give Yahoo a chance and as Rudy said, don't allow your personal feelings to take over.Knowledge is power.
