Casemodding artistic computercases

Recommended Posts

i came along this a while ago, and it's just sick what some people do to their computercases, like this: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

this guy made a fish tank in his freaking computercase!

or, if you really like half life.... :P

it just sick, don't you think? are there any freaks who did similar things? or anyone who would like to to it? i would never do it, although it is funny to view them. :P

I've seen quite a few cool ones... I remember there was a time modding your case was an underground thing and it was so much cooler then, because the skills were known to few. I saw a person make a CPU out of a breadbox, a pyramid, and I saw the advertisement for a man who would draw traditional kimono motifs using cloth and traditional kimono dying methods on your CPU.Nowadays, with modding so popular, it's hard to find really original mods. When I walk around the computer mall I can see so many ugly but bling modded cases, with like blue coloured lights and transparent windows, but no sense of art. It's really hard to find a good modded case nowadays, those two are a breath of fresh air!

My friend and his brother had a desk made out of hollowed plastic. When I went over to their house they told me to turn their new computer on, I went over to the desk where their old computer used to be, opened the cupboards and there was no computer. At first I thought they were having a laugh but then the brother came over and turned it on by pressing a button on the door handle. Yes, their desk was the computer housing. It's difficult to explain but pressing one of the drawer had a small button which opened the DVD Drive, another opened their CD RW Drive, their USB ports were located a small cupboard type compartment...it was all very well thought out. The slide out drawer was the keyboard although the buttons were silver, they blended into the wooden looking plastic. Their speakers were installed into the side panels of the desk so that the air in the desk vibrated and it sounded cool. Everything was well installed and built, his dad designed things in plastic, specialising in furniture and they were quite good at computers. As the whole thing was built inside, their was no wires except the plug cable. Even the optical, wireless mouse had its transciever hidden behind a fake mirror (one way mirror thing.) So basically there was a monitor on an empty desk. The idea was very unique and although the desk wasn't high quality, it was still unique and if a company got hold of it they could take it somewhere. I said they should publish it on the internet or sell it to a company but they said they would in due time. The reason they didn't want to put pictures up is because they want people to come up with unique ideas. I joked that they should build a picture frame for the monitor and then put a nice screensaver on the computer, they didn't laugh and wrote it on their improvements list for version 2...So there are original ideas out there for cases definately. It's just that many of the original ones dont show theres or it wont be original. I think that was one of the coolest cases ever.

Ive made 3 mods so far, all utter failures. because ya, they looked cool, but they were just so damn hard to work on. and i change my box around alot. so what im thinking, my next project should i ever have the money, get me a wardrobe cabinet, put server racks in it. mod the entire thing. ahh the possiblilties.

 yeah...modding is awesome...you dont think so...you can leave...i have only done a few small mods, but nuttin major....i have three systems total...my laptop and two crap systems...and one day i was starring at one of the crap systems and was about to through it out along with some plastic tub thiners...somehow i got the great idea to just toss the computer in there...idk...i made mounts for the drives and mobo...the mobo was on the bottom of the tuppre ware thingy and the drivers were on their side at the top of the tupper ware thinger...the system had three fans and i had cut out the sides to look like grates...so it got plenty of ventilation...i painted it black...looked ok...for gigantic tupper ware...but i was bored...my other modded case was good...i did it as a craftsmanship project...extra credit sorta thing so that i could use the right tools for the job, and so that i didnt have to pay a penny for the wood :):) but ne ways...i pretty much built a wooden case for the comptuer...it was a tower not a desktop...everything was put together same as a regular tower, cept made of wood...i stained the outside of the case and coated the inside with a sealer (nuttin that would hurt the hardware) i loved it...untill it started unfire...no just kidding...i got bored of it one day and just through it out and decided to go back to a regular case...still...modding is the best...and yeah...people need to come up with some more original ideas...but i do love to see hl2 modded cases...whether they are original or not :) another thing that i enjoy doing...well enjoy having done cause i am a crappy artist, is having my side pannels for my comptuer painted by professional artists...my great grandma (who im srry to say has passed) used to paint saw blades with different outdoor senes...i took one of my side panels to her and she painted a beatuiful winter wonderland on the side, the old picture of the sleigh going throught the snow with a cabin in the background...just amazing...she was a great artist...one thing that i really want to get done right now with my laptop...is take the lcd screen to someone and have them paint my face on it...sort of a self protrait thing...i think itd be pretty cool...but yea modding is awesome...i love it...and people do need to start comming up with some original ideas...although i do love to see a good hl2 case every now and then :):D:D

Ok, Wait frisco, are you saying you dont like HL2? and if you are how can you say that, Half Life 2 mimics real life physics almost to the point where i dont have to go outside to excersice I just start HL2 (or actually garrys mod which is a modification of HL2) and make some treadmil, or some airplane that has dimention (meaning unlike most objects in games where they would fall, since hl2 has that complex havock engine, objects either glide if they have the right aerodynamics, or they just fall with an awkward spin.) The games like Halo 1-2 and Doom 3 (which halo and doom have good ragdoll, but they dont have the physics, for instance you can jump a down a dillion feet hole in halo 2 and survive. I dont think that would happen in real life). And about the computer mods, I am a modder I have modded 2 computers, maybe not as outragiously as that. (I bought a case customised it a little, if I get any pictures I'll put them on here). If you thinks its funny how its a waste of time, then i think you are a pretty funny person, since I sold my last modded computer (which i changed 3-4 things in the case) for 1.2k which I only spent 700 on it. there are alot of really really cool mods out there, some guy turned one of those paper things (you put a dollar in there and then pull down the little door thingy and get your paper) into a computer where the whole bottom was the computer, the part you open was the moniter, keyboard and mouse, and the on switch was where you put coins in (which the guy made look awsome, theres a fake coin that you press in to turn it on and when you press a seperate button on the top to turn it off or when you press shutdown on windows the coin would pop out.)
