Other Browsers Besides Firefox? barebones

Recommended Posts

I love firefox also, but I'm looking for a barebones browser that just basically has an address bar and favorites.

I tend to lean towards simple programs, such as Media Player Classic ( http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ ) which is a tiny little program that can play almost any media type (music mp3s, ogg, wmv, etc...video's like .mov, .avi, divX encoded, etc....images like jpgs, gifs, etc...). MPC is a "barebones" program so to speak - there is nothing fancy about it at all, but it is a simple program that is extremely versatile.

Anybody know of any "tiny" browsers, that are very simple? I'd appreciate it :D

well, the only one i can think of is Lynx http://www.lynx.com/ (i think, google it) but its a text only browser, built for speed. its about as barbones as you can get, but if i recall, you have to compile it yourself.

That links to a linux operating system.

http://lynx.browser.org/ is the text browser one. By "barebones" though I meant it could do all of the basic stuff (like displaying images :D ) but didn't have all the fancy bells and whistles like firefox or any other "common" browsers.

Thanks anyways Posted Image

Firefox is already almost a barebones browser if you don't install any extensions. Basically, you can just simply surf the web with it. Its already a pretty well designed browser compared to others like IE and Opera and its probably the best choice in browsers so far.

I have used my whole life IE, but a while ago I got some adware or something like that, and I tried Firefox and Opera, but no one impressed me. I looked like IE with another skin, so since the adware in IE still showed up while browsing with Opera and Firefox (even when I'm doing nothing at all), I just keep using IE, wich I have been using for... like 7 years without any mayor problem at all.

It’s interesting how people can change the topic of a post from a simple question to a spitting contest. Or a flame war on browsers or something else. If we could only read the original post and understand what the person is asking for or talking about it would eliminate some of these pissing competitions.Ignition was just asking if someone knew of a simple browser with less bells and whistles to the popular ones.

Ah yes but your forgetting that forums are like this for a reason, conversations are suppsoed to wander, Ignition has got his answer and then the conversation must carry on until another point is made. Conversation will always move on and usually quite fast. Also browser wars are just starting like it or not its going to get quite a bit worse, you wont be able to sleep without dreaming of it. We are here to trade knowledge. I was improving on my point by giving an opinion and explanation, I will fight for Firefox till the bare end. :D

Heh thanks Rudy, I don't care now. I'll just stick with Firefox, it works great - was looking for more opensource browsers though, like programs you find on Sourceforge. Maybe I'll search around on there...see what I can find :D

"The Off By One Web Browser may be the world's smallest and fastest web browser with full HTML 3.2 support. It is a completely self-contained, stand-alone 1.2 MB application with no dependencies on any other browser or browser component. For Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows XP."Anyway, it's not the smallest. Opera is the best browser ever, and much tinier than Firefox with MUCH MORE features. But if the barebones is what you want--http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
