very nice ndhill. i like the poses you have done, i really like the 2nd, 3rd and last one that you have done probably cos there is more detail yet still a little rough. many people seem to do a heck of a lot of quick sketches like 30 second sketches of people or other objects, do you do that alot? or are you more digital than traditional; you can't bring your PC and tablet everywhere you do lol. yet you still have to take into consideration the principles and such when doing very quick drawings. i cannot seem to do such quick sketches, i just cannot leave them like that, i think i overwork things. :)

Actually, gesture drawings (30 sec to 1 min) are arguably just as important as more time consuming and refined drawings. They're a fun little distraction too. The goal isn't to draw quick but to draw "through" your subject. Pay attention to the center of gravity and "flow" of a form and use that to simplify your drawing. It's best to do it on a big pad of newsprint paper because it's cheap and it allows you to work big and utilize your shoulder and elbow more. That brings me to my next point; being able to draw on a large scale is crucial. I'm not saying that small sketchpads and using your wrist is bad, just that forms are easier to understand when you draw them large.

tcave: Thanks man. It takes me anywhere from 45 minutes to about six hours. It depends on the scale of the project. For the most part, these are all quickies with the exception of the sandworm.darkool: Thanks. I use Corel Painter 7 in conjunction with a wacom tablet. It sort of a way for me to apply my traditional background on to the computer.

Thanks! Did I use a mouse? Heck no! I've seen a rare few who can pull that off. I don't figure it's worth the trouble. I use a wacom tablet and Corel Painter. Basically these allow me to utilize the computer the same way I would with a traditional medium. It's all hands on so-to-speak.

Haha, I was wondering that myself! Your art is extraordinary, it really is! You are very talented. You have an interest in the supernatural and the extraterretrial it seems, which is very cool. I love how you made a semi realistic portrait of yourself, then you made it with just a skeleton-like image, then with the extraterrestrial appearance... very creative! You know how to use the right colors and how to shade well. Good for you! I've tried drawing with a mouse and it just doesn't come out at all... even if it is just editing a photo! I don't have a graphics tablet, unfortunately.

Again; well done on the artwork. I really like the horse on your last picture. Was the Samuri (or however u spell it) inspired from the film The Last Samuri played by Tom Cruise? cos that is what i first thought of when i saw it.

My second favourite and probably my overall favourite is The Dunes (that is what i named it) one, with the very ickle man and the vast sand and hills (or whatever they are called when they are made out of sand :D) i love the perspective in that one. you can almost think what he is thinking (FU** me that is a SH*T load of sand! :D).

Well done.

Keep 'em coming.

overture

edit: if it is not a desert i apologise :( i haven't slept much --tired smiley here--

I think that the sand one is my favorite, too! Like I said before, this guy really knows how to use the right colors and how to shade... it is mind boggling how good it is!! I really admire his ability.

Your art is amazing! I love your style! It's very unique! after awhile I get sick of seeing the same thing over and over it's good to see something new for once!Have you ever used anything besides Corel Painter? Like Photoshop or Open Canvas?

lesmizzie: Thanks for the kind words! Yeah. Using a mouse is hell. I'd prefer even the smallest tablet over one. I'm using a 4x5 graphire which is pretty tiny by tablet standards and considering the size at which I work. It's a bit like performing brain surgery on a pigeon... Not that I'd know anything about that.Iarkalwen: Thanks! I stick mostly to painter though I am slowly apply photoshop here and there. I use photoshops handy realtime jpeg compression tools to keep my image sizes manageable while not sacrificing detail. The way I look at it is simple. Painter is a specialist while photoshop is a generalist. It can do a lot of things really well while painter focuses and excels in painting. I’d love to give open canvas a try, but I have to wait till the mac port is out. Thanks again everyone!-Noel

Wow, I’m really impressed! I love the stuff you draw, particularly your use of color! You did this in painter and edited in Photoshop? You’re very advanced, I haven’t managed to make such great things in this program… *is awe* The first picture is my fav! :)
