tucows.com en download.com also have a lot of freeware. download.com has the option to do an advanced search so you can only search for freeware.

There are lots of very nice and useful programs and other things on http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ which is of course a freeware only site. You can get items in a wide variety of topics and categories and plus they are nearly all of very good quality since they are all visitor rated.

Kazaa I will admit, is an absolutely hopeless program. It won't even run without the spyware that is included in it's original download. Limewire however is an exelent file sharing alternative. It comes without spyware and i have not yet come accross a single virus/spyware/malware etc. disguised as something else (and i have downloaded hundreds of assorted programs/songs/images/text files).I highly recommend it too anyone.

Does anyone use yum or apt-get here?Under linux i first go surfing for a nice program, then i pull up a terminal and type : yum install <programname>usually it finds something usefull.For windows programs i usually look for bit torrents (shame on me ). But first i'll look for an open sourced or freeware alternative to the program i'm trying to find.

I would have suggested the same thing. The great thing about this site--besides having freeware programs--is the ratings. It rates how good the program is. This website also helped me in finding some really good freeware programs such as PHP Designer 2005 (my 2nd favorite from FrontPage 2000) and POV-Ray.

Hey, just a suggestion. Get a bittorrent with a search feature integrated, I think it's one of the best ways.
