Ananya 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2012 According to a latest research conducted on rhesus monkeys a low calorie diet can augment chances of one remaining healthy but not help much to extend life. The reason rhesus monkeys are chosen is they too are long lived primates like Humans -average lifespan extending from 27 years to 40 years.According to the journals published in Nature by the researchers :-2 groups of monkeys -one that were fed with restricted diet and the other that were fed normal diet but both were refrained from being malnourished. The one fed with restricted diet did show lower incidences of cardiovascular diseases, cholesterol level, diabetes than the other one but didn't translated into longer life span. Another similar study however contradicts the above conclusion thus placing mixed results :- and dilemma on the question that what is actually beneficial for primates to prolong their life span.
