North Korean Army Chief, Relieved From His Post

Recommended Posts

The army chief of North Korea, Ri Yong Ho, has been "relieved" from his post as he is facing health issues. However, some concealed internal power struggle could be smelled in this event.

The chief was known to be a close associate of the son of North Korean leader Kim Jong II.Kim Jong's son Kim Jong Un succeeded his father after the latter's death.

The 69 year old Ri Yong Ho had a substantial role in helping Kim Jong Un to attain power after his father's death and Ri also held some important positions in the administration of the country, like that of the Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission of the Workers' party of Korea.

Analysts assume that this decision could involve the tensions of conflicts between the military and the civilian elite of the country. Another possibility that was expressed was the influence of Kim Jong Un's uncle Jang Song Taek as he might be making efforts in getting people out of his way,who could prove to be creating obstacles for him in the path of attaining absolute control.

Ri was reportedly seen at the celebrations of the 100th birth anniversary of Kim II Sung, the founder of the nation and didn't look like he was doing well with his health.

However, in spite of the rumors of internal conspiracies, no evident signs of such has been shown.
