I find the software JDownloader (http://www.jdownloader.org/) very useful. It automates downloading and makes it easier. I haven't found anything better for the job. The problem is, you often have file links that are protected by Captchas and they won't download on JDownload without your intervention. Really sucks! Hold back those tears of disappointment, for there is good news! I recently discovered a great website to solve this problem. It is called http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. Download the Jdownloader plugin, and you'll be able to download almost all links. You need to have credits for solves, which are cheap and/or easy to accumulate for free. You just go to Earn Credits, and solve some Captcha's when you have time to stockpile credits. It's not much work to solve some captchas in the corner of your screen while you're doing something else.
