Seeking Php Game Developer/partner

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm looking for programmers to help develop a browser based, non-telnet MUD. Our project is called Krisal. Our coder has gone AWOL with our server, codes and room description. We are pretty sure we can get it back, but are just as happy to start from scratch with a new developer. The MUD is accessible from any browser, and is wholly text-based.Our aim is to produce an immersive world that nourishes creativity and realism with room for flights of imagination. We will not be allowing staff to act as in-game 'gods' or other power roles, but rather will encourage players to fill roles that require in-game responsibility. We also aim to make the MUD not only the best of its (rather small) genre, but a great player community and thriving business (I don't plan to make a million bucks, happy to throw my end of profits back into game, but figure our head coder ought to get compensated for time and effort!).We're offering 50% of profits (monies coming in via advertising/donations/player-bought custom bio pages, etc) to a Game Development Manager. A contract to that effect is welcomed, upon proof of reliability and ability to get along with the team (and not going AWOL!).The code we have is PHP/MYSQL. It's custom, and apparently not too difficult to work with. We don't need sound or graphics/animation - just text and shops/mobs/quest type of clicky stuff for players to use as props for RP, mainly, as well as basic crafting systems to encourage use of the in-game economy. The game is more about a co-written world story than clicking monsters. We don't need huge servers, and are happy to pay set-up costs. However, we suck at technical stuff and would need help with that also. We have a solid game plan, good crafting ideas, and the basic world written up (if we can recover it, no matter if we can't. our writers are on the ball). We need somebody fairly skilled with PHP/MYSQLand possibly with MUD experience (very simple crafting systems, etc) to take on the role of Development Manager, who is willing to put in time/commitment to a long-term, part-time project (ie, it shouldn't eat every moment of your day, every day, it's not that complex). Foremost is reliability and patience with dealing with us non-techie writers. Current team all get along well, are efficient and cheerful, and are proven reliable.Krisal has a fantasy setting, with 'realistic' gameplay encouraged (ie, characters need to learn crafting/interact with others to earn gold, rather than just clicking monsters). It's focussed around writing, and the enjoyment of shared fiction. Special races/classes will be awarded to players who put a lot of effort in to encouraging RP. We have in hand a very basic code base to build upon, but you have a better one for our needs, we're cool to go with that. We don't have items/crafts/shops sorted yet. World admin are used to an x-y-z co-ordinate system for room/ area creation, and the code has a form for that (and a tutorial, very handy).Any help would be gratefully received.

Hi Jolie!I myself am not an experienced PHP programmer. I don't think I would be well suited to acting as development manager, I do have some PHP coding skill however and would love to help out on a project such as this. In addition to some novice PHP skills, I also have website and network administration skills and love making MODs for various games. I have participated in many online games that were well suited to RP, and in my younger days I played various pen and paper RP games like D&D, Planescape, and even Star Wars RP games. If your development team has need of another creative "helper" I'd love to lend a hand with level/quest creation, some writing or even some website maintenance type duties. I can't guarantee my total availability as I have my offline life to consider but I'd certainly love to help out. I myself would not seek any sort of monetary compensation, just maybe an honourable mention in the credits would suit me fine. ;)If your team needs anyone to help out in the above mentioned capacity let me know :)
