sukhi 2 Report post Posted June 10, 2010 Today the fruits of activism have come a little : Mrs Sunita Sharma from Gayatri Parivar , Patiala in her relentless campaign against the media's vulgarity finally got the government to issue notices to media houses to restrain vulgarity on screen. I conducted some interviews of men in mumbai and they were all catalogued in the argument against obscenity in Media. Our next target is TV producers and internet. We put up questions to the Supreme court that showing vulgarity and *BLEEP*y behaviour of women is leading to more rapes and molestation of woman and the court has directed movie producers on what norms they are using to portray woman in the public media. CodeX 0 Report post Posted June 11, 2010 This is a travesty.Women should have the same freedom as men in every regard. Implying that someones dress makes them at fault for becoming the victim of a violent crime such as rape is ignorance and irrationality in the highest regard. The RAPIST is the criminal, not the women with a low cut dress and high heels. The most beautiful women in the world could walk down a dark alley at 2 in the morning and if she were to be raped the rapist would STILL be 100% wrong. I don't give two shits what the woman is wearing or how she is acting it CANNOT be used to excuse a violent crime against her such as rape. What ignorance, it makes me ashamed to be a human being to hear people who actually believe this stuff. chini13 11 Report post Posted June 11, 2010 I think their is a lot of contradictions around here.Sukhi is correct in saying that a restriction is to be made on the media showing all the vulgar stuff on television. The way they present things is misguiding people. It is always misleading the children, women at large as they r the people who watch the television moreBut i think women should always have the freedom to dress up n live they way they want to.Rapist is a criminal. It is not about the dress my friend. Let any girl wear anything. It is none of our bussiness to comment on that. We are trying to ask the media that why they are showing vulgar stuff to the public and also not just vulgar stuff ... but violence of Mafia, making them look like DemiGods and we feel that because of the media ( which is a very powerful force for making people think what they think ) there are men who want to and desire to do what is shown in reel life. Look at the statistics below to understand what a woman goes through when such elements pounce on them and does the Indian Society treats such woman and how the indian judicary makes life difficult to the victim. http://www.global-sisterhood-network.org/content/view/498/76/There are many rapists going around and there are several reasons for that that person being a rapist but media ( porno , langauge used in movies for girls etc , the way they dress in movies makes men feel when they see them in streets .. oh ok this must be a game ! ... What we want is a good potrayal of girls from the men's poibt of view rather than just the sexual part of it.I cant Comment on the western society as their culture is different and I do not know how woman are treated there. I dont understand this .. It is so simple .. the more bad you show the more bad the people become ! Edited June 11, 2010 by sukhi (see edit history)
chini13 11 Report post Posted June 12, 2010 (edited) There are rules and rules made for only women in the society. They are given a certain code of conduct and they have to follow that.In India a woman is only respected if she follows that certain code of conduct. If she moves away and break the rules she is seen from different angles and glasses. The television is playing a bad role here.Whether is it is needed or not women will come up n show up all these stuffs are considered so "IN" nowadays but we don't understand where we r heading towards.IT is necessary to present things in a good manner without forgetting that we want to show things for the upliftment of the society.I will not only quote the vulgarity but will focus on the television serials which portray women as in many negative shades. She is sometimes the mind behind the a murder, she is greedy, she possesses all those bad qualities and they present a single women who is the victim of all this bearing all those attacks. This depiction of the Indian women as either a beautiful 'abla naari'and then 'durga' and then a vamp...is cruel.I have seen in real life too women is imitating these ladies of the serials. This is doing no good to the society and the women is looked upon in different perspective.Television is selling all the not so needful and the society at large is the victim. CodeX 0 Report post Posted June 12, 2010 (edited) Government is not supposed to be a parental entity for society. The government should have no control over what content is on television, because YOU have control over what station your television is tuned to. If YOU don't want to watch certain content then simply do not watch that content, but do not force your ideals on everyone else who may not share them, that is a slippery slope and usually ends in further oppression of the population by the ruling authority, which in turn leads to violent revolt, upheaval of the corrupt government, and revolution.Again, the government is not there to babysit the people, adults are adults and can determine their own actions regarding what they watch on TV and at the movies, what they put into their bodies (in terms of drugs and alcohol), and how they act toward others. The only role government should play is the enforcement of laws against violence toward others, including physical violence, whether intentional or negligent, and theft. If you feel the government should act like a parental figure maybe you need to grow up yourself, because you shouldn't need a parental figure past a certain age. chini13 11 Report post Posted June 12, 2010 We have control over the the television.I don't find a single channel which shows useful stuff. If i have the option of changing the channel that doesn't mean all those stupid stuff will go on earning money by spreading the ill in the society. It will be like closing eyes on the evil happening, it is purely unnatural if we want an educated future and a decent society. In India it is increasing day by day and no one dares to work on it.Before showing all that stuff it is not be understood well that one parents are not at home the children do have remotes and they can watch anything and then they do behave similarly with their aunts and mom.Infact i have seen young gals imitating them and are unaware of what they are heading towards. If Government is not the parental entity to the society then who will be ? People : Yes. But governemnt is from the people and hence one cannot say that people are not controlling the government ( it doesnt happen in real life it is the other way round actually ) .. but in any case i feel influencing the government which practically owns everything in a country is the right step. And there are guidelines set by the government to the media for good and morally right potrayal of what the show. I shall post the guidelines too but since the government is corrupt and hence they allow media to pass movies which should be rejected by the censor board but they dont do it because they are paid to get things passed."The only role government should play is the enforcement of laws against violence toward others, including physical violence, whether intentional or negligent, and theft."Well the government would be like this : Ok let the rapes happen and then we will punish them. If that is the only thing they are doing then we dont need government because even people can beat up rapists and that would instill fear. One has to have prevention too. Having a morally good and free medis is necessaty and the government when does this based on the culture of the society they are trying to stop the disease from occuring so i think Government cant just be sitting with noose to hang all these people ONLY. They have to create conditions in the country so that such events dont take place in the first place and media is one of the things that Government can influence to make conditions in society more conducive for woman to live terror - free from men. chini13 11 Report post Posted June 14, 2010 The Problem of our nation is that they never abide by the rules and norms set for the nation. The regulations are set up , which are not strictly followed for various reasons. The political influence and the money influence is so high in this country that nobody can get a justice on time.If the rules and norms are followed in full faith and with stringent strategies our country will be a better place. The rate at which the rapes and murders are increasing makes it clear how the law and order of this nation is.Any one with good influence can save himself from getting punished and if punished , it is never on time. There are many examples in our everyday life about the issue. The money becomes so important that people forget basic moral values on the stake of dignity.Government has its role a major role, crime was always present but it is to be controlled. The control comes from the governing people which is lacking. The leaders of the nation are completely responsible for this condition of our country. The developed and a well governed nation is the one in which all the aspects are controlled. The economy, agriculture, population, infrastructure and as well as the law and order. This can happen only if we abide by the set norms. Baniboy 3 Report post Posted June 14, 2010 We are trying to ask the media that why they are showing vulgar stuff to the public and also not just vulgar stuffBecause it sells. IF people didn't like to watch stuff like that and most are against it, like you said, then people shouldn't watch it. If people don't watch it, it's not shown in the media. Problem solved. The problem is that people watch it, it's entertainment. If the majority watches this stuff and the majority is against it, I think they have a strong mental condition going on there, no offense. As for rape and murder. People don't rape others because they see it in television, therefor your argument makes no sense. Rapists have a fetish and lack of self-control. Murders are planned kills, so I don't see why somebody would plan murdering someone because they saw it on TV. They do have a sense of what they should or not shouldn't be doing, and TV isn't going to change that fact. Media does affect people, that I'll admit, otherwise people wouldn't be using it.
