Power Pirate is a three-piece electronic rock band from Washington D.C. formed in the fall of 2007 by Emily Pakulski (guitar & vocals), Michael Garate (keyboards), and Annika Monari (drums). Annika and Emily hosted an informal session to meet new musicians. Among them was Mike, who stayed with the two with the goal of creating music with a fusion of innovation and traditional musical theory.

 

Since then, Power Pirate has found its place in the DC/MD/VA music scene through catchy melodies and complex instrumentation. Inspired by modern artists such as Muse, Infected Mushroom, and Daft Punk, this trio fuses 80s-styled techno synths with hard-rock drum beats and guitar riffs to create the new, uncategorized genre unique to Power Pirate.

As you read, Power Pirate is a fairly new band that was opened in 2007 by my cousin, Emily Pakulski, and her friends, Michael, and Annika.

The band recently entered in a competition called "SchoolJam USA."

 

What?s SchoolJam USA? It?s a one-of-a-kind battle of the bands competition, where you can compete for great prizes for your band?and your school music program!

 

Who can enter? Anyone in a band, whose members are between the ages of 13 and 18, aren?t?and have never been?signed to a music label, and are currently registered at a high school in the United States. (All band members must be able to travel outside the country to qualify for the trip to Germany)

 

What kind of music? Any style of music, as long as it?s original (no cover bands) or the music falls under public domain. Lyrics must be approved.

 

What are the prizes? Each of the 10 finalists will receive prize money to purchase new gear?and so will their school music programs! In addition, the winning band will travel to Europe next March to perform at the 2010 SchoolJam Germany finals in Frankfurt. Read the full prize information here.

Their band is pretty high up on the chain, currently fighting for 2nd place with 5 more days left in the competition, and a chance to jump into 1st place!

In recent news, the competiton ends this weekend!The band has been slipping in and out of 2nd place about TEN times in the past few days! I'd really appreciate it if you voted to help out my Cousin's band win!Thanks!
