donneo 0 Report post Posted October 21, 2009 Web site Cnet reported that the new specifications for Wi-Fi could soon mean crash for Bluetooth. Yesterday announced the name of the specification is Wi-Fi Direct, and they stand behind Wi-Fi Alliance, an association of producers of equipment that supports this technology. The new specifications allow all devices equipped with Wi-Fi Direct - cameras, printers, computers, mobile phones, keyboards, mice, etc. to be merged with other Wi-Fi devices and the one on one or more simultaneously. The speed of data transmission remains the same, but the standard provides a maximum range of such connecting devices to 100 meters. Although this way of using Wi-Fi takes the need for Bluetooth, in some cases, smaller firms will no longer need for routers. Although ad-hoc connection between Wi-Fi devices already supported in the existing standards, Wi-Fi Direct should facilitate mutual finding and connecting devices. Predicts that the first officially certified devices logot Wi-Fi Direct will appear next year.

shadowx 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2009 replacing bluetooth is a brilliant idea. It is a brilliant idea. It's been good to us, but its time has come, just like dial up internet bluetooth has become far, far too slow for today's media. When HD audio and video come to phones bluetooth will be useless. It's only real use will be for headsets and such, but only then if it uses less power than WIFI, if WIFI uses the same amount of power and can have multiple connections then headsets too will be WIFI. Bring it on!
