Sql Backup, Confused what to backup and restore

Recommended Posts

Hi.I hope somebody can help me here,as I am worried that I am backing my website up correctly. Basically the company that designed my website have a backup option for my sql in my WRC-SHOP which when downloaded comes to 23mb, but they will only allow a restore of files that are 2mb max, so there is no way for me to restore the sql from my WRC-SHOP database. So I have also taken a backup of mysql from cpanel, but uncompressed this file is 18mb, is this the same file as my WRC-SHOP backup, if so why is it as different size, and how does cpanel take a backup of the sql (is it stored in a general place), basically I want to make sure the cpanel backup is the right backup.I am not an expert in sql or mysql, and why does my WRC-SHOP say sql backup and cpanel says mysql backupMany Thanks.really hope somebody can help as I am worried ;)

I would trust Cpanel on this (its never let me down, ever)The different sizes can be explained by different methods of backup, thay can be formatted in a different way, it may be that one is encrypted or compressed.Im not familiar with WRC-SHOP but the restore utility may be designed for backing up a single table or part of a database oposed to a total backup of your SQL databases. You could create seperate smaller backups.Hope this helps.
