Trap17 And Forum Hosting Question I want to know if phpBB forums are compatable with trap17

Recommended Posts

Hello all!I would assume, due to the fact that this free host offers php and mysql support, that one could run a phpBB forum on it. However, I cam across an issue: many of the free hosts available do not offer SSI support. Last time I checked, SSI was very crucial to a phpBB forum working, so although the other requirements would be fullfilled, it appears to me that I still couldn't run a forum on those hosts. Now, I went to Xisto and I checked out the details on the free host, and no where did I see SSI support. I was wondering if anyone has a forum running or knows of a forum running on this host to testify if it works or not. Thanks in advanced,Mike

SSI means Server-side Includes?I don't run phpbb any more, (an AEF guy here), but the Xisto does function well for any packages currently available in the phpbb/smf/mybb/AEF realms. It runs Joomla/mambo/drupal, etc, in fact, those and many other softwares are available from the fantastico installer in the Cpanel.

Yeah, I meant Server-side Includes. I haven't run a phpBB forum in years and last time I thought it required some SSI, but if you say it's doable I'll take your word on it. Thanks a lot mate :P

SSI, whenever i would hear about it, is normally within the context of SHTML. But i don't think PHP would be as useful as it could be if it could not include any files within other PHP files. All the scirpts jlhaslip mentioned and other scripts i have seen ran here on active accounts. The only site that quickly comes to my mind that uses PHPBB3 on their Xisto hosted site is http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/

alright awesome!Would you also happen to know whether or not custom php.ini files are allowed? I've seen other sites deny it unless you pay, but Xisto is essentially paid AND it offers other customarily pay-only services, like custom 404 pages. Thanks a lot in advance if anyone knows :P

Not sure about the custom php.ini files, i have no need for them, so the thought never crossed my mind. What specific questions do you have about the ini files and which settings do you need the php.ini file for? Remembering that certain settings are what-they-are due to the shared nature of the servers, and that the settings are very liberal compared to most free web hosts, which specific settings are you looking at needing changed?A phpinfo might answer your questions.
