Charging Pc Gamers For Maps + Weapons

Recommended Posts

Robert Bowling, Inifinity Ward's community manager, has posted on his IAMfourzerotwo blog more details about the upcoming map pack for Call of Duty 4.

Xbox 360 users will have the map pack from April 3rd, but what about the PS3 owners? They should not worry anymore because Robert Bowling had said in his IAMfourzerotwo blog that the PS3 users will be getting the map pack for the same price 21 days after the Xbox Live version release date. As for the PC users:

Right now plans for the PC version are unannounced but we are working to bring PC users the same content in the future, however logistics are being worked out on how to make that happen.

So, PC users - the only thing you should do now is to hope that you won't be paying for it when it's released!

EA Clarifies Battlefield Pay-to-Play Weaponry

by Aaron Linde Mar 24, 2008 1:45pm CST tags: EA DICE, Battlefield: Bad Company, Beta, Xbox Live Marketplace Speaking with Shacknews, Electronic Arts has clarified reports of pay-to-play weaponry in the upcoming release of EA DICE's Battlefield: Bad Company (PS3, X360). Responding to reports that ten weapons in the Xbox 360 multiplayer beta of the title were marked as purchasable from the Xbox Live Marketplace, a representative explained that some of the weapons would be made available as part of pre-launch promotional programs.

"Battlefield: Bad Company will release five unique weapons free of charge through five different promotional programs prior to launch," the rep noted. "EA will again make these weapons available to players free of charge after launch, in case anyone missed the pre-launch promotions."

The other five weapons will be made available to players who purchase the Gold Edition of Battlefield: Bad Company, which will be released alongside the standard retail release this June. "For players who do not purchase the Gold Edition of the game, they can still buy the five weapons at a small individualized price per item," the representative continued.

"All weapons are balanced for gameplay," they added. "More weapons offer players more choices but do not create an advantage/disadvantage for players who do not opt to buy new items."

Both articles talk about forcing PC gamers to purchase new maps and even weapons. What the hell, this is stupid. Getting forced to buy weapons to play a game YOU already purchased. Leave it for the console noobs who are willing to pay money to get a few extra maps. On console, after a while they always go out free later. Why do companies have to do this? I pay money to play a game for all the content and furture content for it. I understand about expansion packs, as they tend to add alot more to the game but won't prevent you so much from enjoying the game without.

Gaming companies are becoming money grapping, I won't say the next word.
