Recommended Server-side Programming Language

I think that php is the most used language for server-side programming . because it's so popular there is many samples that you can find and learning it have became very easy because of it's popularity. i think java script is the most used scripting language too. i don't suggest anyone to use ruby on rails. Alex Payne (twitter developer)in 2007 have said :

Running on Rails has forced us to deal with scaling issues that any growing site eventually contends with – far sooner than I think we would on another framework.The common wisdom in the Rails community at this time is that scaling Rails is a matter of cost: just throw more CPUs at it.
